In 1875, George Eastman and others founded the Rochester Optical Company in Rochester, New York. The company produced a line of lenses for use with firearms that were called "Eastman lensed guns." In 1880, the company moved to Pleasant Hill, California. The first laser sights were designed by MIT graduate student Theodore Kaczynski and developed by him and others at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). A pair of goggles used a scanning mirror and an infrared light projector to project a image on a retina-like screen above the shooter's eye. When fired live ammunition through the machine gun barrel into this image, it caused interference with electronic tracking circuits inside receivers mounted on other rifles. With this system, shooters could hit targets at long ranges without having their sights move around. In 1983, America's Manufacturing steel rifle company purchased Eastman Optics from its heirs. After the war ended in 1945, most of these rifle sights were discontinued but a few continued to be used through into the early 1970s when they finally went out of production due to technological advancements that had been made in today's firearm industry.
Pleasant Hill is an unincorporated community located in Fresno County, California. It lies at an elevation of 4,711 feet (1,451 m). As of the 2010 census, its population was 535. The community name may be derived from "Pleasant Valley", a locality in nearby Tulare County. The first post office in Pleasant Hill was established on July 10, 1892. The first settler in Pleasant Hill was John Waddell. In 1915, the community had a population of 12 and a school with 7 students. A garage and grocery store were built shortly thereafter. By the early 1920s, there were only three homes left in the community when it moved to its present location south of Isleton Road. Pleasant Hill has experienced several changes over time: In 1924-1925, the Community House (now known as the Mayfair) became home to a dance hall where local bands played every night for $5 per person during prohibition era; In 1951-1952, when construction began on Interstate 5 near town square and new shopping centers were developed near I-5 and Highway 395 (the current day alignment), much of what is now Pleasant Hill was destroyed by fire; In 1968-1969 when Highway 395 was extended west from Fresno into Kern County beyond Isleton Road/I-5 interchange to connect with I-680 concurrent with US 99W going east – much of what is now Pleasant Hill fell victim to this project; In 1984 when state Route 49 intersected Interstate 5 just south of town square – which increased access to town squares around the county – much less development occurred within immediate vicinity; Finally since 2000–2001 when state Route 50 intersects Interstate 5 just north of town square forming what is now called Kerrville Street outside city limits

Despite these challenges, however, the town continued to grow during its early years and has since become one of California's most vibrant communities. Today, Pleasant Hill is known for its diverse architecture – including many examples of Bungalow-Style homes – its excellent healthcare system (including hospitals such as San Francisco General Hospital), and its vibrant cultural scene which includes art galleries, music venues, theaters, and restaurants.
In 1848, General Mariano Vallejo founded the town of Pleasant Hill on a hill overlooking the San Francisco Bay. The town was named after Captain John C. Fremont, who had explored and mapped the area in 1846. The first post office was established in 1852, and by 1860, the population had grown to around 100 people. Pleasant Hill became an agricultural center with many farms and plantations dotting the landscape. Pleasant Hill experienced some growth during World War II as a major munitions plant. In 1945, the town was renamed for President Harry S. Truman after he visited it during his presidential campaign. The town experienced some economic decline following World War II but has since regained its former prosperity thanks to new development along Interstate 280 and other public projects like the Donnybrook excavation that involved uncovering over 1 million artifacts from previous eras in downtown Pleasant Hill.
