Pleasant Hill was once a small town in Kern County, California. It was founded in 1876 by the Hidalgo family. The community of Pleasant Hill rapidly grew after it became the home to the Arsenal Arms Company, which manufactured rifles and shotguns. In 1917, when World War I began, the company relocated its production to El Paso, Texas. The town continued to grow as a result of its status as a manufacturing center for firearms. By 1925, Pleasant Hill had become the largest city in Kern County and had over 100 businesses. In 1938, during World War II, Pleasant Hill joined the United States Army and became part of First Corps Area Headquarters stationed at Fort Bliss near Austin Texas. After the war ended in 1945, First Corps Area Headquarters moved back to Pleasant Hill and resumed production of firearms. The company produced assault rifles until it closed in 1984.
Pleasant Hill is a small town in the Central Valley of California, located just south of Fresno and east of Bakersfield. The population was estimated at 2,853 in 2010. Pleasant Hill is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. Pleasant Hill began as a small farming community in 1887 on a low hill northwest of present-day downtown Fresno. Pleasant Hill is a small town in central California, located on the banks of the Sacramento River. The population was 2,044 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno–Mendoza, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pleasant Hill was founded in 1847 by couple speculators named Pleasant and Julia Hill. The name "Pleasure Valley" was given to it by one of its early settlers, Charles W. Goodyear. Pleasant Valley was originally a cattle ranch that extended from present-day Center City east to what is now Euclid Avenue and south to Happy Valley Road. In 1868, Pleasant Valley became a city when its citizens approved an act annexing it to Fresno County. The city's first mayor, Fenton Gibbs (1861-1865), served for two terms before he resigned due to ill health; his successor George Ayer (1866-1872) also resigned because of health problems. In 1875, John Leland built a dam on the Sacramento River at what is now Hillsboro Boulevard and renamed it Pleasant Hill Dam after himself and his wife Julia's home town in England; however, no evidence exists that this actually happened. From 1870 until 1959, Pleasantly Hill had its own post office which opened on July 3rd of that year with only six mailboxes; today there are over 150 mailboxes throughout the community thanks largely to USPS’ Operation Mail Recovery program following the Sept 11 attacks On October 9th 1903 local residents voted not to annex into Fresno County but rather keep their own government separate On January 14th 1914 Mayor Ayer announced plans for annexation into Fresno County as well as creating new streetspace inside City Hall Unfortunately for Pleasantly Hill residents who opposed annexation both proposals were implemented without their input or notification After some discussion between City officials and farmers in 1916 about developing agriculture within Poverty Flat Township which bordered on Pleasure Valley proper forming what would become known as East Palo Alto – although much development never took place due largely to financial limitations
