A few years later in 1984, a shooting occurred at West Valley College which killed two students and injure thirteen others including five police officers. In 1994, following passage of Proposition 65 (the Safe Drinking Water & Toxic Enforcement Act), Pleasant Hill became one of thirty cities across California that were required to install water quality tests for all residences with indoor drinking water without exception. The first people to live in Pleasant Hill were the Hahns and their families who came from central California in 1853. They set up a cabin on a high bluff overlooking the main street of town. The town was named for General James Polk who served as President of the United States in 1849-1852 and died near Fresno, CA that year. In 1872, Josefina Maria Chavez became the first Mexican woman to vote in Kern County when she cast her ballot at an election held at the old courthouse on State Street. In 1907, Jens Jensen started manufacturing plastics products out of his home on Main Street which soon became one of Kern County's most successful businesses. He married Lillian Eisfeldt (1901-1984) whom he had known since they were children together in nearby Porterville where they lived until 1951 when they moved to Broomfield after Lillian's death from ovarian cancer; Jens also founded KJOJ Radio Company where he served as president from 1957 to 1974 before retirement age made him limited liability company owner emeritus effective January 1, 1975 remainder continues under new name "KERN RADIO COMPANY"

Pleasant Hill is located on the east side of Kern River and has been settled since 1849. It is named after Mount Pleasant, in England. Pleasant Hill was founded by Presbyterian missionaries in 1849 as an agricultural community on the east bank of the Kern River near present-day Edwardsville. In 1860, Pleasant Hill became one of five townships within Kern County and it remained that way until 1959 when it became a city with its own mayor and council. The City of Pleasant Hill was formed on January 1, 1959 from part of the former Township of Easton which had been merged into Easton proper two years earlier. At its creation, Pleasant Hill had a population of approximately 60,000 people living within its borders including 30% of the City's workforce. By 2010, however, Mayor John Burton announced that he would not seek reelection after failing to win over support for his plan to reduce crime rates within the city limits by $3 million per year through police officers and other initiatives while also increasing funding for infrastructure projects such as new roads and bridges. Today, much like many small American towns before it (and often following similar trajectories), Pleasant Hill rests atop a foundation built during more robust times - during World War II when local manufacturers produced munitions here; during post-war boom times when jobs boomed for engineers and builders; and most recently as part of Barack Obama's Valley Forge strategy to revive economic growth opportunities around Greater Los Angeles Area suburbs outside Santa Monica Boulevard/Euclid Avenue area

Pleasant Hill is a small town in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 5,878 at the 2010 census. It is located on the scenic shores of Humboldt Bay, approximately 12 miles east of San Francisco and 14 miles south of Oakland. The first settlers were farmers who arrived around 1847. They ranched and grew barley and wheat until 1865, when they began to grow grapes. By 1880, they had built a small mill to produce flour for local grocery stores. In 1886, the town's first post office was established; it continued operation until it closed in 1954. A new post office was opened in 1961, and remains in business today. In 1894-1895, Pleasant Hill participated in what is now known as the Moraga Gold Rush; many people from nearby towns went overland to help prospect for gold near Moraga Springs (now Redwood City). After finding no gold worth exploiting, the men returned home several weeks later empty-handed. One account suggests that some residents may have been offered money by prospectors in exchange for not searching too hard; others may simply have traded goods they lacked for shiny new belongings.(1) In 1906-1907 Pleasant Hill hosted an agricultural fair which attracted attention from area businesses including J PMorgan & Co., then one of Northern California's largest banks.(2) This event also served as a fundraiser for local schools which benefited from increased attendance following World War I.(3) Pleasant Hill experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its proximity to Naval Air Station Concordia(4) - which housed Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter planes needed for submarine warfare - as well as its role as a munitions production site: during 1944-1945 alone, the town produced more than 1 million pounds (500 metric tons) of munitions.(5)
