Pleasant Hill, California is a small town located in Inyo County, California. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reno-Tahoe Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pleasant Hill is known for its historical architecture and for being one of the few remaining small towns in Inyo County that still retains many of its rural character. The first people to live in what is now Pleasant Hill were the Hetch Hetchy Band of Paiute Indians who lived along the San Fernando River from around 1800 to 1855. The first white man to settle in what is now Pleasant Hill was John Kane who arrived with his family in 1852. He built a cabin near present day east side of town and named it Kane's Post Office after himself and his brother James Kane. In 1902, Jens Jensen purchased 640 acres (247 hectares) north of town from Ayrton Sutter for $10,000 US dollars which he donated to the University of Utah as a research station on Coyote Creek Ranch number 840527B2. This land later became known as "Jensen Ranch" and "Herschel Farm". In 1915, W F Sutherland settled down on 100 acres (40 hectares) south of town while working on an irrigation project for ranchers north of town including Harry Smith and Clarence Keithley. Mr Sutherland named his farm "Pleasant Hill" after his home country – Ireland – where he had been born in 1881. In 1920, Harry Smith moved from Reno to Pleasant Hills with his wife Dorothy and their two children Boris (b 1946), actress Peggy Fleming Smith (b 1951), assistant administrator at NASA's Johnson Space Center during Apollo 11 mission; son Bryan Woosley Smith (b 1984).Harry Smith founded Fruitland Nursery out back from Ivar Mossberg's house which became one of world's largest nurseries caring for premium apples such as Granny smith apples Tokio pears Rome oranges Julius Appleseed pies Weyers Honeycrisp Golden Delicious Apples

Pleasant Hill is an unincorporated community in Kern County, California, located on the right bank of the Tuolumne River. The population was 1,834 as of the 2010 census. Pleasant Hill is part of the Modesto–San Joaquin Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is also included in the Fresno-Madera-Riverside Combined Statistical Area. The name "Pleasant Hill" was given to a small valley near by by geologists who were studying how granitic rocks spread through earth's crust. In 1851 a post office was established at Pleasant Hill and it continued operation until 1925. In 1852, two brothers named George and Jesse Haggerty started a millinery business on Sacramento Street in downtown Modesto with six looms and fifty workers. They produced high quality fabrics such as cashmere andSilk for import into Europe and America. The mill went bankrupt in 1857 but reopened under new ownership in 1861 which led to its current name of Haggerty Mill & Company Inc., now known as fabric retailer American Apparel Inc.. The first school opened in Pleasant Hill at what is now 154th Street and Magnolia Avenue on Wednesday 8 January 1860 (the same day that Modesto's first public school opened). School was conducted by Rev James Waddell from his home on Doolittle Road until 3 February 1860 when he moved to more permanent digs at 499 South Elmira Avenue. A year later, Mrs Catherines Mears donated land east of town along State Route 99 for a new elementary school which became San Jose Elementary School District No 2A & B; Mrs Mears' donation helped finance another new school building erected 1929-1930 at 522 East Capitol Ave.; finally Mrs Mears gifted her entire 7 acres including her house & lot to the district when she died in 1933; this property became known as San Jose High School Campus today). From 9 November 1863 until 14 December 1865 Reverend John Ransom served as pastor of Gertrude Wesley Methodist Episcopal Church located at 615 North Clarendon Avenue; during this time he also taught SundaySchool classes for 10 hours per week from his home adjacent to First Baptist Church across from San Francisco Market Place! Reverend Ransom then returned to his original church location where he preached until his death on 15 October 1870 after an illness that lasted six weeks! Reverend Ransom's services are still celebrated each year on Easter Monday morning with morning worship followed by afternoon teas & cookies socializing before preaching until late evening services ended about 1800 hrs local time or shortly before dawn the next day! Reverend Rannon is buried within sight of his old church site alongside many other early Modesto pastors like Drs Edward Everett White (1861-1937) Rev John Sutter (1862-1928), Drs Isaac Watts (1864-1936) Hiram Knowles (& wife Harriot Jane Knowles† – born 17 May 1865) & Drs George Sherman (whose remains have been interred there since 1937). * Map courtesyof OpenStreetMap
