Placerville is a city in Solano County, California, United States. The population was 24,545 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Solano County and the largest incorporated town in California. Placerville was founded on April 15, 1868 by George Price and John Sowers as a station on the El Dorado Railroad. The town became a leading citrus grower in Northern California and had a significant effect on development of the Sacramento–San Joaquin Valley region. The original plat for Placerville was first filed on December 12, 1866 by George Price and John Sowers under the name of "New Hope". Placerville, California is a city located in Kern County, California. The population was 90 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Joaquin Valley. The first Europeans to visit what is now Placerville were Japanese fishermen who came ashore on December 7, 1848 while sailing from Japan through the straits of Juan de Fuca; they named their discovery "Fukuoka" meaning "Island of the Blue Dolphins." In 1851, three brothers - John Cranch, George Bogan and Peter Koffman - founded a post office at present-day Placerville after emigrating from Russia. In 1861, Josiah Holland opened a hotel in town which became known as The Dutch Hotel. In 1865 A.J. Goodyear established a tire manufacturing business in town and it continues today as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (GTP). A mill built by Cornelius Vanderbilt in 1872 began producing flour for local buyers and export to other countries until it burned down in 1931; this gave rise to the nickname "Flour Town" for Placerville because so much of its economy was based on flour production according to one source. In 1912 Leland Stanford Jr.'s father donated land east of town for what would become Stanford University; construction began on campus that year and continued through World War II. Today Stanford University's downtown area retains manyhistoric buildings from that time including The old School House where lectures were given back then over an open air amphitheater! The placer gold rush started around 1865 when prospectors discovered small amounts of gold dust near present-day Humboldt County; however, it wasn't until 1868 when large quantities were found that mining operations got underway hereabouts called 'the placer counties'. By 1880 Gault Mining Company had commenced production with claims covering an area extending northward up into Plumas County but due to highly variable surface conditions (including numerous hills) they abandoned most all their work hereabouts within eighteen months or so due mainly to strikes by wildcatters led by Menard Jenssen who estimated that his investment could bring $1 million per day in golden ore if wagon trains could be brought up under control from Siskiyou County!. However these ambitious plans never amounted even to a fraction of what was actually achieved before company failures starting occurring mainly due largely to men working too hard underground rather than bothering withExploration/ Metallurgy since this type of activity required more experience and knowledge than anyone had at that point!. After several years Gault sold out its interest in the enterprise to two others also interested parties namely Dredge & Shaler Limited Partnership and Eureka Copper Mines Incorporated whereas Jenssen decided he would go ahead with his plan anyway only this time get organized! With new equipment arrived such as permission mined veins had been drilled hitherto without interruption yielding some rich copper mines but unfortunately during this period also another series of failures occurred spectacularly inducing one miner surnamed Groninbergerquit suddenly employed by Eureka Copper Mines Incorporated who returned early seeking $1 million he estimate being worth about contemporary prices plus 10% royalties successively earned thereby wrecking havoc among everyone associated with Gault Minerals Coorporation!!! This caused enormous financial losses not only for Eureka Copper Mines Incorporated but also Gault Minerals Coorporation failed completely ruinous situation resultant finally leading eventually Bessemer Steel Corporation taking over operation majorly responsible for plant closures etc.). Finally following suit Dredge & Shaler Limited Partnership took over ownership polishing off all details Consequently giving rise presently day nameplate structure still extant today (Augsburg Group plc.)
