Scope mounts have been a part of the Placerville landscape for over a century. The first scope mount in Placerville was erected in 1892 by E. H. Wittenbach and his father, Nicholas Wittenbach. Today, there are several businesses that operate out of Placerville that still sell or maintain scope mounts from that era. The first modern Scope Mounts were manufactured by Western Scopes in 1950-1951. This company was started by two college graduates, Harry Genrich and Walter Heinemann, who had returned to the United States after serving in World War II as Normandie’s Gunsmith shop assistant on Okinawa. Western Scopes pioneered the use of air-cushioned turrets on scopes to provide better comfort for shooters during long hours of operations and also developed many innovative features such as an offset worm gear breech block that eliminated recoil problems with heavy guns. In 1957, Browning marketed their Browning Hi-Power rifle with a new design scope mount called the Bendix Rifle/Scope Mount (BRM). This mount featured four rubbermaid legs which could be shortened to fit most rifles without modification and allowed the owner to easily remove or replace the scope when needed without having to take apart their rifle! The BRM quickly became popular among hunters and Recreational shooters across America and continues to be used today by many firearm enthusiasts around the world!

In the 1860s, a group of farmers in Placerville began to build a large home on the edge of their property. They named their home "The Gables". The home was built on a high hill and provided views of the surrounding countryside. In 1881, The Gables was purchased by J.P. Morgan and his family. The Morgan family used the home as their summer residence for many years. In 1924, The Gables was sold to Mr. and Mrs. John Drysdale and became known as "The Drysdale House". It remained in the Drysdale family until 1999 when it was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Neil Patrick Knoepke, who lived there until they died in 2006. In 2008, The Drysdale House was donated to the California Historical Society by its previous owners, the Knoepkes.
Placerville, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is located within Kern County. The first people to live in what is now Placerville were the Ohlone people who arrived in 1810. The town was founded by Don Carlos Castilla and his family in 1854 as a farming community on Rancho San Bernardino de los Cahuillas. In 1872, Placerville became part of Mayacaueco County when that county was established from parts of Bakersfield and Fresno counties. In 1915, Placerville became a city and has since grown to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kern County. The city features an extensive system of parks, including several baseball diamonds and golf courses as well as two lakes named after General George Armstrong Custer and Admiral Dewey. Today, Placerville is home to many businesses including Kaiser Permanente Hospital which is one of the largest employers in the city with over 1,000 employees; Monsanto Company which manufactures agricultural products such as corn seeds and soybeans; Burton-Patterson Tire & Rubber Company which specializes in rubber products; and Allstate Insurance Company which operates Allstate Auto Insurance offices throughout Kern County

The first scope mounts were created in 1914 by German inventor Gustav Weiser and were called "Weiser-Bogen." The expanding availability of air rifles and bolt action shotguns in the early 1920s led to the development of scope mounts for these firearms. By 1925, most all rifles had been standardized with either a Weaver or Bushmaster scope mount. However, some weapons still used older types of scope mounts such as keyhole or open sights. In 1932, American rifle manufacturer Winchester introduced the 6mm Creedmoor cartridge which caused a shift in focus from manually adjustable sights to gasoperated rifles. This new caliber required scopes with more magnification than those available at that time for both hunting and target shooting. To meet this demand, Winchester produced two series of scopemounts: the Whitworth Model 700 (W7) and 7x57mm NATO (X87). The W7 was designed specifically for 6mm Creedmoor cartridges while the X87 was designed for larger calibers such as .308 Winchester and .50 BMG rounds. In 1936, Belgian Rifle Company began production of their own line of Scope Mounts under license from Winchester. These mounts became known as "Belgian Made" because they were made in Belgium under license from Winchester. It wasn't until 1959 that Ruger began producing their own line of Scope Mounts which would become known as Ruger SCOs. At first only single shot rifles were offered but later versions included conversions for multiple shot guns such as shotguns and handguns
The original Expand on Scope Mount was designed as a field mount for rifles. It allowed the user to increase magnification while in the field by adding an extra piece of gear to their rifle. This type of mount is now commonly used with shotguns, pistols and other firearms.
Placerville, California is a small town in Tuolumne County, California on the eastern edge of the Silicon Valley. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is located east of San Francisco and south of Sacramento. As one of the most affluent communities in Northern California, Placerville has become known for its fine wine and other luxury items. The first European to visit what is now Placerville were two Spanish missionaries in 1776; their journey began by boat from Monterey Bay. They named it "San Francisco de Asís" after General José Joaquín de Herrera who had won independence from Spain in 1821. In 1847, three brothers started a flour mill on El Camino Real near present day downtown Placerville with $1,000 provided by John Dutton. Over time they added sawmills, cotton mills and many other businesses which made Placerville an important center for agriculture and trade during the early days of NorthernCalifornia'ssettlement." The first European settlers in Placerville arrived in 1853. The town was named for George Washington Plummer, a ship's captain who had settled on the site in 1849. The town grew quickly, and by 1860 it had a population of around 100 people. In 1870, the local post office was moved to the new town center and renamed Placerville Post Office. In 1872, the first school was established in town and residents started using public transportation to get to their jobs. By 1905, the population of Placerville had reached 300 people and it began to grow rapidly due to its location at the edge of an agricultural region that offered good opportunities for agriculture and ranching. By 1910, however, farming activities were waning and according as industry took over, unemployment increased. In 1912, when California became an independent state, Placerville lost its status as a city but continued to grow rapidly as a result of its position as an agricultural center. After World War I ended in 1918, there was little demand for farm labor and placer mining stopped; instead large companies developed industries such as aluminum production or textiles production which caused job losses for locals. As a result of this decline in business activity and high unemployment rates within the city limits (-30% from 1920-1927), City Council voted in 1936 to secede from Contra Costa County effective January 1st 1937 In 1938-39 City Council decided that maximum growth potential could be achieved outside of City Limits through annexation into Contra Costa County
