Placerville is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 census. It is home to the Placerville Community College and the Placerville Mall. In 1929, when EECL merged with General Electric Company (GE), Placer Valley became part of GE's Western United States division before it was spun off as its own company in 1940 called Western Electric Corporation (WEC). WEC built two new electric companies - Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) and Alameda Gas & Electric Company (AGE) - within Placer Valley before merging them into PG&E in 1951. After World War II, many businesses closed down due to economic recession; however, one business that did well during this time period was AEG who invented air conditioning systems for automobiles In 1957-58 there were efforts to move the placid center of Plumas County eastward across agricultural land towards Redding because of city growth around Modesto along I-5 which would have taken away much needed farmland east of Redding . However this idea never came to fruition as Modesto decided they wanted their own central plaza instead In 1974-75 plans were made for an interstate highway bypass including parts of downtown Placerville but these plans never came to fruition as no money could be raised for it Prominent local resident Dr Don Dyer created what is now known as Dyer's Storefront Museum on Main Street across from City Hall which housed various antique items until 2004 when it moved out onto State Route 176 where it remains today

Placerville, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of Northern California. It was founded by Nicholas-Jacques Placerville in 1847 as an agricultural post on the east side of the Sacramento River. The first store and post office were built there in 1848. By 1860, Placerville had a population of about 350 people. Its growth quickened when gold was discovered nearby in 1859 and early miners traveled to Placer County to find it. In 1865, Placer County became part of Nevada Territory, and by 1870, there were only a few hundred residents left in Placer County. The area that now includes Placerville was organized as part of Contra Costa County on January 1, 1889. Placerville has experienced its share of prosperity and tragedy throughout its history. Initially an agricultural community with typical pioneer trappings--a high school, grocery store, blacksmith shop)--the town quicklydevelops industry which helped make it one of the most prosperous towns in Northern California during the late 19th century. However, by 1900 local businesses had all gone out of business or been bought out by larger ones; within 10 years most residents had left for other parts of California or abroad. Ironically enough, much later—during World War II—Placerville would be again one of the fastest-growing communities in Contra Costa County due to its importance as a munitions plant producing explosives for military use across the county line into Oregon (then part of Mexico). However economic decline setin after World War II caused many longtime residents to move away again; by 1970placaserviceablehouses remained only for a fractionofthepopulation
The first Europeans to visit California were the Spanish in 1769. The mission system was established in 1821 and by 1830, there were seventeen missions in California. In 1848, the Mexican government decided to end the mission system and create a secular republic. As a result of this decision, most of the Mission buildings and equipment were abandoned or damaged during the rest of the 1800s. In 1851, American soldiers burned down part of the San Francisco Presidio which resulted in Commodore John Bogue proclaiming Californias independence from Mexico on July 4th, 1851. Edward J. Smith became governor of California on February 3rd, 1850 and organized what is known as The Gold Rush. Mining commenced in earnest along Mono Lake near Placerville where kimberlite was discovered in 1861. In 1865, Ulysses S. Grant became President of the United States and ordered General George Crook to march his army into southern California to reopen mining operations there because he felt that gold was being wasted up north at Sacramento City et al... However little gold was found at Placerville compared to other areas throughout California due to hard labor conditions caused by extreme heat and difficult access to water supplies
