After 1945 peace returned to America but no end was found to the grazing fires which continued ravaging portions of Plumas County until finally being extinguished in 1951 by then Governor Goodwin Liu with help from firefighters under then Captains Jack Fenton and Sam Bechtold respectively; part of what is now known as "Plumas burn" A national environmental disaster continuing up through 2006 caused extensive loss including irreparable damage to cultural artifacts such as pottery bowlsherds from Point Arena Creek below Red Bluff; some structures still standing have been preserved as part of Plumas County Parks system today .
