Placerville, California is a small town in Sacramento County, California. The population was 4,856 at the 2010 census. It is located in the north-central part of Sacramento County. It is bordered by the cities of Elk Grove Village and Dixon to the south, Placerita to the east, Ceres to the north and West Covina to the west. The first European settlers in what is now Placerville were Irish Catholics who arrived in 1849. They named their new community after Saint Patrick's Cathedral on Father Ryan Boulevard in Dublin, Ireland. The town was platted in 1851 by James Waddell and John Cushing as a township under jurisdiction of Sacramento County. In 1876, it became an incorporated city with its own government. In 1911 it merged with City of Dixon to form one large city with a total population of over 100,000 people. In 1957, Placerville became home to America's first high school for girls when Pacific High School opened on East Cotter Road near Presentation Sunday Episcopal Church. The school closed in 1984 but reopened as girls' Central High School later that year. In 1993, Pacific sank into financial trouble and was sold to private individuals which led to its closure again; however, it reopened as an apartment complex called "Plymouth Oaks" (now known as Regency Woods) shortly thereafter before being purchased by United States Steel Corporation and renamed "Regent Park". On October 15th 2006 Mayor Donny Hecht announced plans for a $10 million dollar project that would improve public transportation within Placerville and make it easier for citizens living there to get around without havingto take public transportation or drive miles away from their homes . The project would include extending Highway 501 from US 99W out towards El Sobrante and beyond onto Regent Park Drive making access more reliable for residents traveling between Elk Grove Village/Dixon/Ceres areas

Placerville is a small town in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 4,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento-Arden-Arcade Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Placerville were the Native Americans who came there from adjacent Warm Springs Domain in 1835. In 1852, placer gold was discovered east of present day Placerville and soon after development began around that location. Gold was also found near what is now Folsom Street in 1857 and on other properties until 1865 when a large claim was patented by George Ayer. This led to increased activity around what would become Placerville with miners coming from as far away as Nevada and Oregon for their discoveries. In 1871, James White organized a block party to find new water ways into Sacramento Valley and discovered the Arroyo Seco which later became known as Arroyo Seco Creek (now part of Placerville). This discovery led to more settlement around this location by residents who developed homes along creek banks or on hilltops overlooking the creek. In 1870 John Sutter had organized his own group of men to prospect for gold near Folsom but did not find any significant quantities of gold until he founded his adobe ranch here in 1873 where he began working with local Indians and started producing flour, bacon, cheese, eggs,Log Cabin building soap etc., which made him one of the wealthiest men in Northern California at that time. In 1907 racist incidents occurred in Placerville when several white citizens set fire to an Indian village located about two miles east of town center while some children were playing nearby; all 11 members of the village were killed or severely injured including six women and six children who were burned alive within minutes after being taken captive by whites attending a feast Iwo Jima commemoration celebration at Golden Gables Casino Resort & Spa; community reaction following these events helped spur passage of Proposition 8(2008), which repealed proposition 36 (1956) allowing same-sex marriage statewide in California; however some residents still maintain that they are descendants or heirs of those killed during those tragic riots On July 6th 1908 Charles Mathers arrived from San Francisco via railcar with plans to start a new irrigation district called "Mathers Irrigation District" named after him across from today's El Sobrante High School site southbound on State route 99W out towardspresent day Calaveras County The first store opened up in what is now downtown Placerville circa 1915 by Wm Haggerty & Sons grocery store
The first Europeans to visit Placerville were the Spanish in 1777. The site was named by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna for Captain Joséplatte, who fought at the Battle of Buena Vista on October 13, 1800. Mexican traders and Missionaries began trading with the native people here in 1820. A post office was established at Placerville in 1825, and a school opened in 1828. In 1865, there was an attempt to start a railroad through this area but it failed because of the objections of some residents. In 1907, placer mining began on what is now Placerville hill. Over time, these mines yielded more than 2 million dollars worth of silver and other minerals that were shipped out to California overland from here. The town grew slowly until World War II when a large population movement occurred which led to the construction of new housing developments nearby. Today, Placerville remains a small agricultural community with some light industrial activity taking place.
