Placerville, California is a small town in Kern County, California. It was founded in 1887 by John H. Placerville and his family as a citrus packing town on the banks of the Kern River. In 1867, the first post office was established in Placerville. By 1870, it had become an important transportation and trade center on the branch line between Bakersfield and Stockton. During World War II, Placerville was one of many towns that were bombed by the United States military during the Pacific Theater of Operations. After the war ended in 1945, most of the buildings in town were destroyed by fire or damage from wind and lightning strikes. A primary industry until recently been farming with some small mills that have since closed down or been converted to housing units; however recent years there has been significant development of light industrial jobs within commuting distance - including three major companies that are headquartered within Placerville: Intel Corporation (I) which opened its world headquarters in 1995 adjacent to Oregon Avenue's shopping mall (the former Sunoco gas station), Adobe Systems Incorporated (ASI) which moved from Santa Clara County into downtown Placerville after being purchased by Adobe Systems Inc., Pixar Animation Studios (Pixar) which opened its rendering studio adjacent to IMAX 3D Stadium located just north of I-580 exit 222A eastbound off Interstate 5 south of downtown Placerville), as well as several smaller businesses such as Michaels Music Stores Limited Partnership between 1984-2005 a general merchandiser with over 400 stores throughout North America under three banners - "Macy's", "Jolie"/"Lululemon", " Sears Roebuck & Co." This commercial growth has also led to increased residential development around town center with many homes now being available for purchase or rent statewide having seen an increase of more than 20% between 2010-2015 according to market research firm CoreLogic Incorporated .
