Placerville is a city in Mono County, California, United States. The population was 28,566 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–San Joaquin Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Placerville may come from the Spanish word "plaza," meaning "park." In 1851, Brigham Young and his men founded what is now Provo City on the site of present-day Placerville. In 1861, following the Mexican-American War, Mexico ceded all of California to United States control with an agreement calling for wagon trains carrying goods west to be met by U.S. military forces at Fresno and Merced before continuing on to Sacramento and other points in southern California. Because there were no trails leading east from San Francisco or Phoenix through Mono County then, settlers began arriving here by boat from Mono Lake as early as 1868. In 1880s placer gold was discovered in various places throughout central and eastern Mono County; however, it was not until 1905 that Placerville became a town because of this gold rush frenzy that streets were named after local hills (e.g., Gold Street). In 1907 businessman John Atherton purchased over 1 million acres (4 km2) of land east of downtown Reno for $1 per acre ($30 per hectare). The first phase of Atherton's plan called for building a large shopping center—the largest such project in Nevada at that time—on what would eventually become known as Atherton Drive today adjacent to Interstate 5 north of Enterprise Airport. However construction never started due to World War I offers from American president Woodrow Wilson which made housing more affordable than in Europe at that time; instead Atherton developed Riverside Park along the south side of I-5 near Enterprise Airport where he built several dozen homes and opened up Riverside Park as a public park with tennis courts, playgrounds and a swimming pool in 1911 while still living in Reno proper. Atherton died suddenly just prior to its completion in 1919 but his wife Alice continued working on the redevelopment project until her death two years later when it was completed by her son-in-law Edward Weisel who named it Riverside Lilly after their mother who had died earlier that year from complications during childbirth.). Riverside Park quickly became popular among Reno residents for its beauty (especially since most homes were built close together), excellent schools (including Washoe High School), easy access to interstate highways nearby (not too far away from everything else either), good job opportunities available right outside town if you wanted them, wide variety of stores including appliance stores chain Kwik Mart across I-5 Exit #222 which served as both local grocery store and transportation hub for area residents) – all without having to leave your home! Placerville, California is located in the Central Valley of California and was founded by American settlers in 1851. The town was named for George Placerville, a settler who arrived in 1847. The town became a district of San Francisco in 1856 and then an independent city in 1906. In 1949, Placerville was merged with the neighboring village of Redding to form the new city of Redding-Placerville.
The area now known as Placerville was first settled by the Ohlone people in the late 18th century. In 1847, a group of Mormon settlers from Illinois founded the City of Nauvoo on the site of modern-day Placerville. The Mormons abandoned Nauvoo in 1849, and the city never truly thrived. However, it did serve as a center for religious activity until after California became statehood in 1850. In 1865, two brothers named Brigham Young and Orson Hyde founded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) on what is now Snowmass Road in eastern Placerville. The LDS Church began proselytizing within sight of Nauvoo and quickly gained a following there. By 1870, Brigham Young had relocated his headquarters to Salt Lake City, Utah Territory; however, many LDS families continued to live in Placerville throughout California’s early days as part of their church membership. In 1881, local farmers organized a grain crop Improvement Association to help improve farming methods in the area around Placerville. That same year saw construction begin on what is today University Avenue—the first commercial building located within present-day Plaquemines Parish—in what is now downtown Plaqueminesville. This initial development helped spur economic growth along University Avenue and other areas that would later become integral toPlaquemines Parish’s history. By 1915, when World War I began ravaging Europe, many American citizens living near St Helena Island were unable to fight because they lacked military arms or transportation necessary for combat overseas. As a result, many American citizens residing near St Helena turned their attention towards rebuilding their homes and businesses back home before returning to America during wartime – this ultimately led to the establishment of The League Of Saint Helenians (founded 1906), which operates today as an agricultural armada providing humanitarian assistance worldwide with its fleet of charter planes and fleets of trucks
