With steady production from Rincon Hill Mines came increasing prices for goods exported to China and other parts of Asia which created a major boost for local businesses during the late 19th century; many residents still recall early days when goods such as flour and sugar could only be purchase fresh from farmers or bakery vendors on Main Street! However, by the early 1900s Placerville had shrunk to its current size due to population loss and economic decline. By 2000, however, Placerville had regained some of its former vitality as a bedroom community for Sacramento again.
