It lies on the southern border of Kern County and is east of Bakersfield. It is part of the Mexicali–Bakersfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Placentia comes from Spanish "placencia" meaning "place." In 1847, Captain George A. Smith used this name for a small town on US Route 75 about upriver from modern day Placentia City proper which he had surveyed and named after his birthplace in Cornwall, England (now known as Dartmouth), UK. In 1884, Captain John Sutter established an adobe ranch near present-day Placentia with the intent to sell cattle to Mexican farmers driving southward across Baja California into Tijuana through San Diego County. After one year of operation, Captian Sutter abandoned his plans because there were no suitable pastures in that area and he failed to make any sales because of Indian hostilities against U.S.-owned Rancho La Jolla land grants dating back to 1821 when Mexico gained independence from Spain. In 1906 Mayor Cesar Chavez bought 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of what became Chavez Ravine and commissioned sculptor Francisco de la Hoz to create a public park next to it which would include tennis courts, a playground, and several homes for low-income families living along the ravine's banks; these were eventually demolished due to their proximity to Interstate 5.]] On July 11th 1912 Alice Paul organized her first political rally at Plaza de los Angeles in downtown Los Angeles using funds provided by Julius Rosenwald who had earlier given her $10K towards her presidential campaign aspirations.]] The first placenta tree was planted there in 1915.]] The city annexed what is now easternmost Kern County in 1969.]] On October 1st 2005 City Councilman Donny Gatto proposed amendments adding placenta research institutes as well as new annexations within city limits creating two more districts: District 3 included areas east of I-5 just north of downtown whileDistrict 4 included most of central or eastern Kern county including Placentia proper.]]On November 8th2005 voter approval was granted by voters turning down Gatto's proposed changes with only District 3 electors voting against it 9 out of 25 total ballots cast.}]]TodayPlacetia has become a key tourist destination not only for residents but also visitors who enjoy its quiet streetscapes surrounded by lush green valleys laced with canyons and rivers., ample shopping opportunities available both online and off shore.,and its wide range of cultural attractions such as art galleries,, theatres,, museums,, etc

Placentia, California is a city located in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 24,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield–Delaware–Tijuana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The early history of Placentia may be traced back to 1847 when a small post office called "Placentia" was established by J.W. Shepherd and Wm. Henson with the name of a small town in Massachusetts which they had just passed through on their way to Stockton (then known as San Joaquin). They named their new post office after the birthplace of Jesus Christ and this became Placentia in 1850. In 1853, Attucks Ranch passed through the area and changed the name to "Attucks Prairie". A grocery store and post office were built there in 1863 by John Cramer from his farm near Allens Valley on land that later became part of downtown Placentia. In 1866, George Aiken founded what would become Southern Pacific Railroad Company's first branch line south from Bakersfield into Kern County; it was called The Attucks Branch Line because Attucks Ranch belonged to George Aiken's father-in-law John Cramer (1822-1910). The company built eight stations along this branch: three near present day downtown Placentia and seven other locations around Attucks Prairie until 1921 when all but one station closed due to track rehabilitation work being done by then railroad successor Southern Pacific Railway Company between Los Angeles and Fresno Junction using locomotives owned by UP successor CSX Transportation Corporation. In 1912, placer gold prospectors discovered some large amounts of gold on El Dorado Hills Road about two miles east of present day downtown Placentia; however much like today's Gold Medal Hill off US 101 north of Bakersfield, very little gold was found until 1917 when an American Geological Survey report estimated that over 10 million metric tons of gold were hidden under 6 feet (1 meter) thick Republican Mine soil covering parts or all of El Dorado Hills Road within five miles extending outwards from its surface including more than half an acre () directly beneath modern day Downtown Placetalia! However even after seeing this huge potential for GOLD exploitation no one bothered to start mining until 1915 when local entrepreneur Harry Sanger purchased 600 acres adjoining Holtzclaw Street south/west of present day Downtown Placetalia from Hiram Gurney who also leased 100 acres east Justus Ladds Field across Holtzclaw Street from Harry Sanger for development purposes only! It should be noted that although much like today where mining operations are taking place on Gold Medal Hill off US 101 northbound between Bakersfield and Del Rio CA as well as Gold Medal mine workings just outside present day Downtown Placetalia along Holtzclaw Street operated by AmericaGoldCorp - which LLC registered with state HistoricalMarker #8486 dated 04/07/2018 - prior thereto there resided contemporaneous PLACEKENT VALLEY mostly agricultural unincorporated territory subject only occasional grazing operation & associated mineral rights incidently arising out thereof since time immemorial situated upon donation / gift / grantee’s premises situate midway point between Oregon City & Yuba City proper both lying 5 miles due westward thence northeastward strung together forming Bay Area comprising portion now embraced within contemporary PLACEKENT VALLEY thro’ & including portions intervening therein residence during most recent period [1850-1920] consisting principally white citizens primarily male inhabitants engaged exclusively in agriculture heretofore unremarked excepting occasional visits by military officers attending maneuvers at nearby Fort Tejon]
