Placentia, California is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. According to the 2010 census, the population was 4,086. The name " Placentia" is Spanish for "birthplace." The town was founded by Spanish settlers in 1849 and was named after Placentia,Spain. The first store in Placentia opened in 1851. In 1862, the first post office was established in the town. By 1865, there were 12 businesses in Placentia with a total business value of $2,468. In 1868, a sawmill and gristmill operated in the town. The first school was built in Placentia in 1875 and served grades one through twelve. A second school was built on Park Avenue in 1924 and served grades eleven through thirteen; it became known as Memorial High School after its closure during World War II due to dwindling enrollment. In 1951, when California became an all-American state, Placentia adopted its present name of California's most populous city by resolution of its board of supervisors. The mayor at that time was Cesar Chavez and plaques throughout the community commemorate this historical event which took place on October 15th of that year at City Hall adjacent to Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church on Main Street where he delivered his keynote speech about how independent cities should be governed democraticly like their Mexican counterparts despite some residents trying to thwart this effort unsuccessfully until Chavez' death two years later from cancer on December 24th following many years advocating for change while beingleaguered by local politics then still seeing some success until his death brought widespread national attention specifically highlighting Chavez' legacy hereabouts finally resulting over 20 years later as part of commemoration program spearheaded by Mayor Ras Baraka who succeeded Chavez after his death also attending ceremony jointly with County Supervisor Donny De La Hoya whose father had been mayor prior thereto) A few months after becoming mayor Ras Baraka convened a committee chaired byLloyd Winters consisting primarily of himself plus Supervisor Donny De La Hoya (of nearby downtown Los Angeles) plus myself plus Controller John Chaves which met monthly during 1986-87 working as subcommittee chairmen suddenly thinking we're going to get something done about our schools but no such luck nothing came out of it other than increasing paperwork requirements especially now since baraka left office little appeared to have changed although much has actually transpired including annexation (of neighboring unincorporated community El Sobrante) so I stopped paying attention what could or might happen next? well last night around 10PM newcomer started pounding on my door asking me if I knew who Lloyd Winters is so I answered yes & he said he's from El Sobrante & want to know why officials won't respondto letters he sends asking questions about our schools so I told him maybe somebody oughta tell them& went back to sleep

Placentia, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. It was founded in 1849 by Father Francisco Xavier Padre and Mission San Gabriel Arcangelis. The present day town was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived from County Donegal, Ireland in the mid 1800s. The early settlers were farmers and fishermen. They named their community after Pinta, one of the ships that made it to America on July 4th, 1847. The town's heyday came during the late 19th century when railroadroads brought people and goods alike to its location. In addition to agriculture, businesses located in Placentia include a grocery store, hardware store, bank and post office. At one time all of Placentia's residents were Irish Catholics with an active church parish that ministered to both local residents and those living far away such as Stockton or Sacramento. Today only a minority of Placentia's population remains Irish American while most residents are white AngloSaxon Protestants whose families have lived here since before 1850
On February 14, 1847, the first post office was established in Placentia, California. The town's first store was built on the corner of First and Main Streets. In 1850, a school was founded in Placentia by Mrs. A.F.Matson and Mrs. Broughton. The first teacher, Miss Emmons, taught children from 3 to 12 years old in a small room above the store. In 1851, Captain Wm Sargent opened a grocery store in Placentia which became one of the town's main businesses for many years afterwards. In 1865 an opera house called the Opera House was built in Placentia by George Haggerty for $8000 which served as the town's only theater until it burned down in 1951-1952. In 1928 an all purpose garage and dealership were built at Sixth Street and Ontario Avenue by Wm Marshall & Bros., Inc.. It remains operational today as part of Armstrong Tire Co., plc., who purchased it from them in 1982 On November 4th 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt delivered his inaugural address here while he toured Southern California with Secretary James Fenton trying to win support for his new Progressive Party platform plank that would make statehood available to all Americans regardless of race or color status- this event is still remembered today as "The Roosevelts speech." After being passed over for president twice consecutively during World War I due to America's neutrality policy (the program known as "Healy-Laughlin"), Woodrow Wilson decided to run for president again on New Year's Day 1916 using what he called his "New Nationalism" slogan: "We are not going to let Europe control our destiny." He won with 54% of the popular vote against incumbent William Jennings Bryan who received 46%. Wilson then traveled throughout America speaking about how important it was for American citizens once more become politically active and helping carry out his New Nationalism agenda domestically before returning home two weeks later on January 20th 1917 via train from Buffalo Bill’s Cody’s Wild West Show at Niagara Falls - this event is also still considered “The Wilson Victory Parade” today!
