Placentia, California is a city in southern California. It is the county seat of Orange County and was founded on December 6, 1850 by George C. Beale and his brother-in-law, John Sutter. The first Europeans to visit what is now Placentia were Spanish missionaries in 1769. Jesuit Father Francisco Xavier Padilla led an expedition that mapped and named many of Southern California's coastal counties after Roman Catholic Saints Clare and Francis Xavier. On November 12, 1821, a small group of Marines under Commodore David Dixon landed at Rancho Laguna Seca on Santa Ana Bay to begin exploring new land south of Los Angeles Harbor. The town was named for Pilar de la Cruz y de los Reyes Anglos (Pilar of the Angels), one of Padilla's converts from Catholicism to Protestantism who had accompanied him on his exploration party. On December 6, 1850, George C. Beale and John Sutter founded the City of Orange here as a center for trading with Native American tribes living along nearby missions such as San Diego Mission and Stinson Beach Mission near what is now Dana Point National Marine Sanctuary

Placentia is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area and has been nicknamed the "birthplace of Silicon Valley." The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1848, when Captain David Sutter found land on which to build his new rancho Vicente Rey. Captain Sutter named his new place after Placentia, Italy, where he had been born in 1795. By 1851, about sixty families had located hereabouts and began to build homes. A post office was established at Placentia in 1852; it continued operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1861, Charles Goodnight donated land to the City of Alameda for a public square on which a town hall could be built. The land was surveyed and purchased by Alameda County Commissioners from John Harkness on July 5, 1865; construction began soon thereafter and the town hall was dedicated on October 30th of that year. In 1870 Supervisor Georgesided subdivided much of what is now downtown into lots for development as housing projects called Rancho Rincon de la Mancha (Rancho Redondo). One lot remains undeveloped to this day and is known as "Old Home Hill" because it overlooks Rincon de la Mancha Park across Market Street from what is now City Hall Square (Alameda County Courthouse). After years of effort by developers and pressure from residents concerned about traffic congestion around Rincon de la Mancha Park and their ability to purchase property there without contributing anything to the community coffers, developer Harry Chandler announced plans for an expressway through downtown Placentia—the Golden Gate Bridge would eventually connect San Francisco with Oakland creating yet another explosive growth spurt throughout central Alameda County during the late 19th century! But before long planners realized that building an expressway through town would not only cause serious traffic problems but also provide no parking or retail opportunities for people who wanted to shop or dine near their homes; instead they decided upon a more conventional plan: making Placentia almost entirely residential with some commercial zoning mixed in as needed…. [This] changed everything when Harry Chandler published his book entitled How To Build Your Own City – A Comprehensive Guide To Building Better Cities In Less Time Than You Would Ever Think Possible! And so began what we know today as “Chandler” planning….. As things turned out: That Expressway never happened; instead our great city center gradually emerged from its original residential core… [Today], Downtown Placentia still functions largely as one big shopping district with many bars/restaurants/cafes/shops lining Market Street between First Avenue South and Second Ave North
