Placentia, California is a small town located in the Kern County region of southern California. The population was 5,552 at the 2010 census. It is situated on the San Joaquin River and includes portions of the cities of Bakersfield, Fresno, Madera and Tulare. The early history of Placentia can be traced back to 1847 when Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded by Father Junípero Serra. Today, Placentia has a strong Hispanic presence with over 60% being Latino. In addition to its Mexican heritage, Placentia also has a significant African American population which makes up 10% of its total populace. The growth and development in Placentia began in earnest after World War II when many servicemen returned home from service and took advantage of the many new opportunities that were available in postwar America. This roar for opportunity led to job creation and increased business activity throughout the city center area which bordered on what is now Interstate 5 south and eastward from downtown. With an ever-growing population came an ever-growing need for housing which rapidly became available as developers bought parcels along I-5 that had been undeveloped for years or had been abandoned due to lack of interest or profitability. In order to meet this demand, construction began on what would become one of Southern California's most important shopping districts - Market Street - later renamed Central Avenue - between West Main Street (now Broadway) and North Euclid Avenue (now State Route 128). This busy commercial artery quickly became known as "the only street in Southern California without a stoplight." Today, much like any other metropolitan area around the world, Placentia experiences some degree of growth both immediately adjacent to it – such as northbound I-5 Boulevard – as well as via outlying areas such as Market Street/Central Avenue and East Monterey Road which have seen recent development interests emerge since 2000 alone including mixed use developments (residential/commercial) at various points near Highway 395 between Madera Lake Boulevard/Upper Yosemite Valley Drive eastward into Plumas County;rainy day closures on I-5 southbound during commute hours resulting in more than $10 million worth retail spending within about one mile radius;and BRT transit project recently completed connecting plazas eastside with downtown Los Angeles Union Station

Placentia (Class B city) is located in the Central Valley of California, about an hour's drive from Sacramento. The population was 2,282 at the 2010 census. In 1848, it became a small town when settlers arrived from Mexico and rowdy celebratory dances were held to celebrate the birth of a new babe. By 1861, Placentia had outgrown its small town status and incorporated as a municipality with a population of 4,100. A year later, Placentia had another population growth spurt when cotton plantations were set up in nearby Islip and other parts of the Central Valley. In 1876, Placentia-Islip annexed neighboring Rio Vista but by 1881 it again regained its independent municipal status due to protests by Rio Vista residents. On November 3 that year, citizens of both towns met to discuss annexation into one larger community under the name "Placentia-Rio Vista." It wasn't until 1907 that they ratified incorporation as a city with a population of over 10,000 people. Today Placentia is known for its eclectic mix of architecture including Gothic Revival buildings dating back to 1876 and Spanish Colonial Revival homes built between 1915 and 1922 respectively. The city has also been home to many famous criminals such as Al Capone and John Dillinger who were incarcerated here during their outlaw years before moving on to greater fame outside plazas around America.
The first Europeans to set foot in the area now known as Placentia, California were livestock farmers in 1821. In 1847, a group of American soldiers who had been stationed at Fort Point on the San Pedro River came across a herd of 180 Mexican horses and decided to buy them. The fort was abandoned soon after, but the horse herd was not. A man by the name of Willard found them and kept them until 1860 when he sold them to John D. Stockton for $200.
