Pittsburg, California was the site of one of the most significant gunfights of the 20th century. On December 6, 1934, two gunmen, John Dillinger and his associate Harry Elmore Kinnear, stormed a local bank in Pittsburg and shot several people dead before disappearing into night. hours later they were believed to have killed six other people including four police officers. Thegunfight soon became known as "The Gun Battle at Pittsburg."
Pittsburg, California is a city in the U.S. state of California and the county seat of El Dorado County. As of 2010, the population was 131,521. The city is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay and is bordered by Contra Costa County to the north, Marin County to the east, Napa County to the south, and Suisun Bay to the west. Pittsburg was founded in 1848 as a stagecoach stop on Humboldt Boulevard by John Coyle and his brother-in-law George Kapp. The discovery of oil infeldt in 1901 led to rapid growth for Pittsburg; its population reached 350 in 1906. In that year, Pittsburg became one of America's leading oil cities with production reaching $1 million per year by 1910. The town's nickname "Oil Capital of America" comes from its large number of oil refineries and other related businesses that were built during this time period throughout downtown Pittsburg as well as along First Street between Broadway and Ninth Avenue where much petroleum manufacturing took place until 1970 when refinery operations moved out into new facilities near SamTranspo Headquarters at Eighth Avenuee South

Pittsburg, California was founded in 1853 by the brothers George and David Pitts. The town became an important center for irrigation and agriculture, helped bring about a period of growth in the region, and later played a significant role in the construction of Interstate 710. Today, Pittsburg is a small but vibrant community with a diverse history that can be seen throughout its downtown area and rural surroundings. The Pittsbach family were among the first pioneers to arrive in what would become Pittsburg. George Pitts purchased land at what is now First Street and Mission Avenue in 1853. In 1865, he married Lilla Hunt who had also come to California from Ohio. The couple soon began clearing land for their new hometown, which they named after their father-in-law: "Pittsburg" was chosen because it was midway between San Francisco and Sacramento City on the Central Valley floor of present-day Los Angeles County. As one of Southern California's most populous towns during the late 19th century, Pittsburg experienced rapid growth due to its strategic location along I-710 (now known as State Route 91). The town's population reached nearly 10,000 by 1870 thanks in part to increased agricultural production around nearby Lake Edwards National Forest and contributions from civic leaders such as Mayor John Trousdale and Judge James A. Cooksey Jr.. In 1893, Leland Stanford Univ.'s University of California opened upshop within walking distance of Pittsburg's main thoroughfare – Fifth Street – followed by other large university campuses across Southern California during this time period. In 1902–1903, when Al Capone was terrorizing southern Californians with his murderous syndicate through Operation banditos (the name given to criminal operations conducted under assumed aliases), many residents fled to Pittsburgh for safety; these refugees founded the city's first Italian American community near Third Street & Market Streets that same year. After World War II ended with Japan's surrender on September 2, 1945 – just three days after General MacArthur delivered his address announcing Japanese nationals living inside America must leave within two months or face military occupation – much OFSTED housing remained unoccupied as Japanese Americans were forced into concentration camps located throughout Silicon Valley northward into Oregon Territory following World War II like others throughout mainland United States including those found at Sunnyside Marina Park today’s Harbor Freight Center eastside on Harbor Drive next door to P&G Corporate Headquarters immediately adjacent SR 520 light rail stop - many people returned home initially occupying materials still remaining stored unoccupied since prior war years elsewhere vacated government property abandoned during peacetime

Pittsburg was founded in 1875 by James Fenton and his family as a small settlement on the banks of the Colorado River. Pittsburg grew rapidly during its early years as a cattle and sheep town, becoming one of the largest cities in California. During World War II, Pittsburg became an important munitions manufacturing center due to its location among several major defense plants. After the war, Pittsburg experienced rapid growth as a suburb of San Bernardino until it lost much of its population and commercial importance in the late 1990s and 2000s due to suburban development along I-10 and other highways. In recent years, Pittsburg has made some progress towards returning to its former prominence as a cultural and educational center within San Bernardino County with several new businesses opening up around downtown Pittsburg.
