At its incorporation ceremony held on October 3rd of that year residents voted 54% against incorporation while only 2% voted yes due to pressure from other cities within Contra Costa County who wanted to annex theirtowns into larger municipalities like Richmond or Antioch respectively fearing similar fate if their Towns failed to adopt incorporation ordinances similar to Pittsburg's did not materialize The growth of Pittsburg during this time was due largely to its status as an agricultural center with both rice and cotton production being major crops throughout most of the 20th century Pittsburg experienced some major flooding during severe droughts such as during record floods in 1966 and 1987 which caused extensive damage including loss of homes and businesses . However overall these floods have been minor compared to other natural disasters over their history . In recent years however things began changing for Pittsburg as large scale development began moving into town beginning with Mary Kay Cosmetics founder Teresa Manning coming here in 1984 after her company moved headquarters from Burlingame Calif . over fears about local competition following Rin Tin Tin riots there also starting occurring locally owned small businesses moving out amidst rising rents , culminating in what has come to be known as Downtown Pittsburgh phenomenon Today's downtown core is home to many popular restaurants such as Five Guys Burgers & Fries (opened 1996), Pizzeria Bianco (2005), Father's Pizza (1989), Quesadillas TJ (2006) among others
