Pittsburg is a city in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. Pittsburg is the county seat of San Joaquin County. It lies on the west bank of the Sacramento River, opposite Stockton on the east bank. The first humans to set foot in Pittsburg were Nomadic Native Americans who travelled along the river's banks during summer months for water and trade goods with farmers in nearbySacramento. In 1846, John Cranch and his brother-in-law, George Eastman founded what would become Eastman Kodak Company in Pittsburg after purchase of an early photographic camera from Johann Georg Zeisler. The company built its original headquarters on McLaughlin Street between Second and Third Streets and continued to operate out of that location until 1957 when it moved to its current location at One Oakland Plaza. Pittsburg was platted by Colonel George Waddell from Rancho Mohave near present-day Dixonville in 1848 as part of a larger land grant given to him by Governor Edmund Sutter. Waddell named the town after his home state of Pennsylvania where he had been born in 1784 and died two years earlier at the age of 72 years old. A post office called "Pittsburg" was established at this site on November 3, 1851, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1865, Charles Goodyear began operations as a chemical manufacturer in nearby Stockton when he purchased an abandoned millrace from John Gorman near modern day Dixonville which he renamed Goodyear Millrace after his employer. Goodyear's factory became one of Northern California's largest chemical plants with production lasting into the 1970s when it closed due to increasing competition from foreign manufacturers. Today only foundations remain standing among many other structures demolished duringGoodyear's years of operation here in Pittsburg; however some evidence suggests that a high school may also have been located within these boundaries before it too closed down around 1960s standards! It wasn't until 1907 that Pittsburg saw its first building erected: The Presbyterian Church which still stands today across First Street from City Hall - serving as both civic center and primary cultural institution for Pittsburg throughout its history! This congregation replaced an earlier structure dating back to1869 which burned down during a storm several weeks prior to its dedication...the only fire ever reported within city limits! Today much new development has taken place within blocks orchard fronting Onondaga Avenue including several high rises atop large parking garages complete with their own internal elevators/spaces not seen anymore elsewhere within downtown area; yet all without displacing or altering any existing structures whatsoever!! Most significant though has undoubtedly been redevelopment taking place adjacent Race Course Road & I-5 overpass resulting not only increased traffic volume but also creation (albeit short term) pocket parks overlooking entire valley floor!!!! If you're looking for something(anything) brand new then stop right outside Pennsicula’s gates….and congratulations you are now living inside Pittsburgh!!!

Calhoun in 1837 as an agricultural village on the south bank of the Sacramento River. The discovery of gold in California led to a mining and farming boom in Pittsburg during the 1850s and 1860s; however, due to competition from Nevada and Arizona, Pittsburg's population flattened out by 1870. In 1881, when San Francisco became a city, Pittsburg lost its status as a town and became part of San Francisco proper. A post office called "Pittsburg" was established at this time but discontinued operation in 1892 because no mail reached the town from that location. During World War II, Pittsburg played an important role as one of the largest defense bases in California with over 60% of all ammunition produced in Humboldt County being used here. More than 20% of all military equipment that was used during World War II was located here including tanks, planes and artillery pieces. After war ended there were many prosperity years for Pittsburg with new construction projects such as casinos (the first ever built outside of Nevada) and hospitals/clinics opening up around town which helped create more jobs for locals over time - even reaching levels where some residents were earning six-figure incomes (). However recent economic difficulties have caused much redevelopment activity to slow down or stop altogether within Pittsburg itself - although some projects are still ongoing such as the renovation/updates to downtown's buildings which began last year and should be completed by late 2019 or early 2020). Despite these setbacks though there has been continued development within town overall including new businesses (such as a major restaurant chain), bars and nightclubs (which continue to draw people into downtown), while also increasing access to public transportation which has helped keep locals engaged throughout these tough times ().
