Pittsburg is located in the San Joaquin Valley, about 25 miles east of Fresno and about 50 miles west of Sacramento. From 1916-1918, CRPC hosted a national rifle competition called the National Championship Shooting Championship."Upon its reopening nine years later under new ownership (the current owners) in 1945," noted the Pittsburg Times "the oldidedistinguished [Kelsey's]intage rifles fetched high prices from admirers of shooting sports around America.""The present day shooting museum also contains many older guns and pistols that date back to 1881.""At present there are over 125 firearms exhibition cases inside and outside of the museum" notes NRA member Jerry Kiser."Many of these firearms were carefully restored or given new condition after being lost or damaged for many years""Some notable examples include: an 1892 Winchester Model 94 lever action rifle that sold for $1 million; an 1876 Stevens Enfield revolver that sold for $380,000; a Colt Single Action Army revolver that went for $3 million when it was sold at auctionin 2007.""The Museum has also been home to two replica cannons used during World War I: one was made by contractor George Stephenson who won an order from General Pershing to make 10 cannon shells each weighing 1 ton each; and another replica cannon built by Alcoa Company employees as part of military training exercises." In 1872, Pittsburg merged with nearby Amador City to form the largest city in Alameda County at that time. The merger led to increased competition between Amador City and Pittsburg for jobs and population growth until both cities merged again into Pittsburg in 1977. In 1992, Pittsburg celebrated its five-hundredth anniversary with an event called "100 Years of Progress." At that time, it was one of only a few American cities still celebrating this milestone statewide.
