The downtown area contains numerous businesses including much older architecture dating back to the early 1800s which are now considered historical landmarks or tourist attractions. Many new buildings have been constructed in recent years including the University of Redlands main campus which occupies most of downtown Pittsburg proper; plus twoadjacent districts - High Street District 1A and High Street District 2 - which contain primarily mixed-use development around five large office buildings along High Street between First Avenue South and Seventh Avenue North;[1] while Phase II redevelopment plans call for another major office complex at 7600 East Seventh Ave., just east of Interstate 5 near Allen Park Township limits

It is said that he called it "Nopalito" because of the abundance of nopal cactus trees near his camp site. The town's first post office opened in 1892. It became an incorporated city on November 14, 1932. On January 1, 1943, Pittsburg became a military installation during World War II as part of United States Army Air Forces Station Palmdale. It continued to serve as an airfield until it closed on September 1, 1951. After the war it grew rapidly as businesses were built and new residents moved into the area; however, by 1990 the population had decreased to 681 people due to economic factors and competition from other cities in the region such as San Bernardino and Riverside. Over time Pittsburg has made advancements in many areas including education and technology which have helped make it one of Southern California's most successful communities; however much work still needs to be done to keep up with current trends while also preserving its history and culture
Pittsburg was founded in 1853 by George W. Pitts and his wife, Elizabeth. The original town had a population of around 100 people. In the 1870s, Pittsburg began to grow as an agricultural center due to its rich soil and good water resources. In 1900, the city became one of the largest in California when it annexed the neighboring town of Midway.
