Pinole is a small town in the Central California region, about 20 miles east of San Francisco. At the 2010 census, its population was 9,936. On November 21, 1865 the townsite changed hands several times as part of a land war between Mexico and America over ownership of Rancho Guadalupe Seco Creek Valley (now part of Menifee) across from what is now Pinole Township. On April 6, 1886 regarding white men having invaded/settled pinolesi Indians reserve: "It has come to our knowledge that some white men have been living among you without your consent or knowledge for some time past...We would remind you that their presence among us constitutes an invasion which cannot be tolerated."
