Pinole is a small town located in Marin County, California on the north coast of San Francisco Bay. The population was 8,291 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont metropolitan area. Pinole's early history may be traced back to 1776 when Spanish missionaries founded Mission San Rafael de Asís in what is now Pinole Valley. In 1839, after several years of construction and $1 million in gold mining investment, Rancho El Cuchillo Mexican land grant was awarded to José Joaquin Baca y Costilla for his rancho (farm). The first white settlement in Pinole Valley resulted from an American surveyor's visit in 1849 and his recommendation for a site for an American military post on Humboldt Bay where he had been employed surveying by General Alvarado. A post office called Asistencia was established at the site on November 25, 1850; it became known as Asistencia del Chico (The Young Eagle) because of its proximity to Naval Station Mare Island. In 1853, two brothers – George Wickersham and Samuel Morse – started a flour mill on Pescadero Creek adjacent to their adobe ranch house which still stands today. They also built Post Office Building #2 which still stands behind them on Harbor Boulevard near downtown Pinole. In 1865, they sold their flour mill and property to Fenton Water Company who renamed it "Fenton Water Works". In 1881 water pipelines were constructed from Toleco Springs through Cannery Row into what is now Downtown Pinole which greatly simplified water distribution and increased productivity at the company's mills across Contra Costa County During World War II United States Army Air Forces Major Vicente Martinez diverted floodwaters from Cannery Row down Harbor Boulevard into pinolesouth Industrial Park for use as runways for aircraft manufacture during the war years 1945-1946; this single event initiatedPINOLE'S large population growth that has continued uninterrupted since then despite competition from other industrial areas east of Interstate Highway 80 including Hayward During World War II many families left East Coast cities like New York City or Boston for pinolesouth because they could not find jobs wartime due to regulations limiting acreage within city limits; nonetheless many old family homes remain standing today around Main Street corner First Avenue South in downtown Pinole with views looking out overContra Costa Bay Bridge

Pinole is a small town in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Pinole Valley and on the west side of the San Joaquin River. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now California were Spanish missionaries who founded Mission San Francisco de Asís (1769) and Mission Santa Clara (1777). In 1821, Mexican officials granted Rancho Los Casales to José Maria Bordenave. He named it after his father-in-law, Manuel Nieto y Ortega, also from Mexico City. The area where Pinole stands today was part of Rancho La Purisima until 1848 when it became part of Rancho Dos Pinos grant given to Carlos Borrego by Governor Manuel Micheltorena. In 1851, Borrego sold this land to John C. Frémont for $10 per acre ($ million at current prices). In 1858 Frémont discovered gold near Sutter's Mill and began an exploration campaign that led to discovery of alluvial gold mines in central California. On July 24, 1860 he named the new mining district Fillmore Township in honor of Ulysses S. Grant because he had personally helped finance its development during his Presidency as Secretary of War under President James Buchanan (). Fillmore was later renamed Socorro County after Socorro Indian chief who had refuge there before being relocated eastward into present-day Nevada Territory following a US military expedition in 1846 (). Gold mining continued through 1861 but production ceased due to overspending by miners and wars with Mexico; only a few claims remain today including those north of Highway 99 near Derby Hills () and south of Old Pinole Road (), both known as Mines Hill Mine No. 9(). Goldmining resumed briefly in 1865 but ended again because so much salt water had been added to make up for lost gold (). However some old claims still contain significant amounts of gold (. about 20% according to one study) which has made them valuable tourist destinations for many years since they are off limits to surface mining or exploration; among these are Mines Hill Mine No. 9., Angeline prospecting mine (), Devil's Gate prospecting mine (), Glen Canyon silverado deposit () and Gunnison Peak copper deposit (). This period saw dramatic changes for Pinole: On October 15th 1870 local women formed a volunteer fire brigade which became fully operational on December 5th 1870 (); two weeks later all male residents between the ages 16 and 50 must attend school ()); pinoleshire post office (); first telephone service (); first grocery store (); first ambulance service (); first doctor); first ZIP code (). On May 15th 1902 citizens approved Measure M1 which designated land within cities limits as open space; this included most or all of what is now considered downtown Pinole with exception for certain blocks around First Street corner Church Avenue ()) . Many businesses were established during this time such as Pacific Gas & Electric Company (), Allstate Insurance Company (), Adobe Systems Incorporated (), Apple Computer Corporation () and Google Incorporated (). Today much evidence remains from this era including Pioneer Theatre District (now called Live Oak), blank building steps leading up Toquerville Road (now Donner Pass Rd.), large number of residences built without permits during that time period(), several churches/temples built without permission or comment from builders/, numerous small businesses started during that time period such as Radio Shack (), Mountain View Camera & Video Store (), World Savings Bank () and Fashion Mart (). During World War II pinoleshire produced twenty percentof USA gasoline while other industries produced munitions,, textiles,, aircraft parts,, engines,, food products,,,, medical supplies etc..pinoleshire also created sixteen jobs right outofthewar

The valley was first settled by the Ohlone people in about 7000 BC and became part of Spanish Alta California in 1821. The area was fought over by the United States, Mexico, and Britain during the Mexican-American War. The valley was part of Northern California until it was annexed by the City of San Francisco in 1879. In 1942, during World War II, Pinole was one of the locations used to experimental an atomic bomb test at Bikini Atoll.
