As a result of this unrest, local leaders decided to merge with Madera County to form Madera-Alviso County on November 2nd, 1968. As a result of this merger, Pinole lost its status as an independent municipality within central California. Today, Pinole is home to a few hundred occupants who are focused on agriculture or ranching activities. There are also several businesses that focus on providing services such as retail stores or daycare options for children within the community periphery. Additionally, there are some minor tourist attractions located within walking distance of the town center which include several museums which specialize in regional history or local artifacts from various periods throughout Californian history; as well as two golf courses catering to locals who appreciate country living lifestyle opportunities nearby while visiting Pinole for relaxation reasons only
