Pinole, located in southern California about an hour's drive from Los Angeles, is a small town with a rich history. The name comes from the Spanish word "pino," meaning tree. The first Europeans to inhabit the area were the Mayas, who called it Yuma. In 1821, Captain John C. Frémont discovered and named the Pinole Valley after this tree when he and his men camped there during their trip up theSacramento River. The first buildings in Pinole were built by pioneers in 1848 as part of what was then known as Rancho San Pablo. This ranch became part of Mexico after America gained independence and most of it was lost in the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848. After years of effort by American citizens and government officials, Rancho San Pablo was restored to British ownership in 1875 following Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. In 1901, two brothers - Rufus Smeaton and Lewis Fenton - bought 2,500 acres (1 km2) around present day Pinole Creek for $5 per acre (0.24 ha). They began developing this land into rolling hills now known as Pinole Countryside Park while also expanding their holdings to include other properties nearby including Heber Hills and Yorba Linda Hills. By 1916 they had purchased 8 miles (13 km) of railroad on which they laid track for a new town that would become home to them, named after them - Pinole Ridgeborough Municipal Cemetery where they laid down onemile (.6 km) of rails between 1906-1914 inclusive., Today much of this remains unexplored country park accessible only by special arrangements made with concessionaire Santa Cruz County Parks District No./27/8

Pinole is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, located in the Diablo Range overlooking the Simi Hills. The name comes from Spanish: pino, meaning pine tree, and olé, meaning valley or district. The first Europeans to visit this area were the Spanish missions of San Francisco de Asís and Monterey. In 1821, General Antonio López de Santa Anna built a military fort at Rancho Pinole after his army was defeated at Buena Vista Fields. The fort served as an outpost on Mission Bay until 1844 when it was abandoned because of increasing Mexican resistance against U.S. aggression in California. In 1868, gold was discovered near today's Pinole by prospectors led by John Sutter and James Hutton. It took several years for this discovery to be exploited; in 1872-4 more than $2 million worth of gold was mined at El Dorado Hill within a radius of about 10 miles (16 km). This made Pinole one of the richest towns in California. The post office called pinolle from 1868 to 1907; however, no evidence that it ever arrived there is extant anywhere other than official records that date back to 1870-1 A full list of post offices which served Pinole between1870-1907 can be found here . The first school in Pinole was organized on Aug 14th 1850 with 11 students attending First Presbyterian Church before moving to School House #1 on Oct 3rd 1850 There were also individual schools for boys and girls starting up around 1860 but these all closed down by 1880 due mainly to lack of parents willing their children to attend public school
In 1835, José Altamira discovered a large salt lick in the hills east of San Francisco. The land was lonesome and desert-like, but it would soon be filled with people and businesses. The location of Pinole's first post office is unknown, but it was likely founded around 1836 when an Indian trader named Manuel Nieto moved from Mission Dolores to the area. In 1839, Mexican lime merchants established a lime kiln in what is now called the old town of Pinole. A year later, a smallpox pandemic broke out in California and many people died from the disease; however, due to Scottish doctor Alexander Fleming's discovery of penicillin, this period saw some significant medical advancements. The early days of Pinole were difficult for its residents because they had to use Native American labor to build their homes and businesses. However, over time these residents came to appreciate their new community and its opportunities for growth. By 1861,pinole had become one of the most important citrus towns in California thanks to its abundance of fruit production. In 1922, Pinole became part of the City of San Francisco through an annexation process that took place within the framework of Municipal Code § 8094 which regulated city boundaries at that time. During World War IIPinole played an important role as a military airfield due to its close proximity to both Angel Island Naval Air Station and Sausalito Naval Base. After the war ended pinole experienced rapid growth as a result of new housing developments being built throughout downtown as well as increasing commercial activity on Market Street which led to increased traffic congestion on weekdays during peak hours which caused problems for public transportation service providers such as Muni Metroroads Incorporated (Muni).
