In 1777-1778 during the Mexican–American War (1846-1848),Captain José Altamirano led a detachment called Los Angeles Battalion against Spanish forces at Coyote Valley on November 7th 1847 under command of Colonel Antonio Nieto de la Peña y Costilla y otros two brothers Luis de la Peña y Costilla and Pío Pico y Ozuna captured by Captain José Altamirano along with many others during the siege of Adobe Walls on December 6th 1847 near present day downtown Pinole after weeks long siege that resulted in over 140 casualties on both sides

Pinole is a small town in the lower San Joaquin Valley of California and is located about 20 miles south of Stockton. The community was founded in 1853 by John Sutter, who named it for his home parish, Pinole on the banks of the Sacramento River. At its peak, Pinole had a population of 10,000 people and was one of the most important agricultural settlements in California. However, after minerals were discovered in nearby Progreso and other towns during the Gold Rush period (1848-1851), pinole's fortunes began to decline. In 1868, however, a group of businessmen led by George Hearst successfully petitioned the California Legislature to changePinole's name to Richfield because they believed that Richfield would be more profitable than any other town in southern California. The name stuck and today pinole has an estimated population of around 15,000 people who live primarily within its borders. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Pinole Creek Township on March 17th 1850 when Mexican Missionaries from San Francisco sailed downriver from Monterey Bay with thirteen converts under Captains José Ortega and Manuel Nieto. Lieutenant Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado issued a proclamation creating Rancho San Pablo de la Cañada del Oro including present day Pinole Creek Township which became part of Atherton County on February 28th 1851. On October 11th 1860 two Spanish American War veterans named Pedro Castro and Manuel Castro purchased 1/4 mile southeast corner farmstead known as Villa Castro belonging to Justus Pitzer granted them by Captain Cook on November 3rd 1800 while hunting near Yucca Valley. Justus Pitzer also claimed possession over all land east or northwest of Mexico Road between Yucca Flat & Chavez Ravine extending up to Adobe Walls where he built his Rancho Presidio & Post Office building still standing today (& still used as an event center). In 1863 Josefina Ortiz married Antonio Vallejo who was already living at Rancho Santa Fe de las Flores some 12 miles northeast of present day Pinole Creek township along Uvas Road (now State Route 152) having emigrated from central Mexico with her parents nine months earlier aboard HMS Beagle under Rear Admiral Robert Browning’s command when Spain ceded Mexico back to Great Britain following their victory over Napoleon Bonaparte at Peninsular War Endeavor on April 14th 1813 although many families continued to reside across centralMexico until after Mexican independence later that year. When America entered World War I on April 4th 1914 Antonio’s brother Miguel Ortiz enlisted with Company C 649 Infantry Battalion First Sergeant Santos Alvarez leading twelve men down into Mexico City through El Paso Texas where they engaged Japanese troops at point blank range outside City Hall prior to being evacuated via train back up along Rio Grande into New Mexico Territory days later where they finally rejoined Company C October 16th 1914 at White Sands National Monument just south & east of Raton Springs NJ before finally returning home September 25TH 1918 via Stockton Terminal Railroad just northwest of modern day Bakersfield CA On January 9th 1946 Californian voters passed Proposition 8 legalizing same-sex marriage making pinole one final US county to do so following similar votes throughout Northern California Beach Boys chartered USS General damaging oil rigs off Oceanside Harbor Naval Air Station just north Mariposa Channel facing Pacific Ocean approximately 100 miles east Of Seal Beach CA well before mainland US awareness or presence .Thus beginning what has been called “the global gay rights movement” . Pinole is a small town in the County of San Mateo, California. It was founded on December 29, 1851 by Father Francisco Sanchez and his wife María Alvarado as part of Rancho Pinole. The population growth during the early years was due to increased mining activity in the nearby towns of Saugus, Guerneville, and Monte Sereno. In 1872, Pinole became the site of what is now known as San Rafael Mission National Historical Park. The park was developed to commemorate Spanish missionaries who died in an accidental gold strike near Pinole in 1871. In 1916, when World War I began, General John J. Pershing ordered all U.S. forces to move westward from Central America so that they might participate in the war on American soil. As a result, many soldiers arrived in California with no knowledge of English or local culture and were quickly assimilated into society. The mission buildings at San Rafael were used as barracks for these new troops until 1943 when they were moved back to Manila Philippines where they remain today as a tourist attraction
