Pico Rivera, California is a small town in southern San Diego County, California. It is located on the Pico Rivera Peninsula and has a population of about 8,500 as of the 2010 census. The name means "point of view" in Spanish. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Pico Rivera in 1846. The area was part of Rancho Niguel Mexican land grant given to José Murillo by Governor Manuel Nieto on November 15, 1847. In 1853, Pico Rivera became part of the newly formed City of San Diego. Pico Rivera was platted as a village on December 12th, 1861 by Hosea Waring and Jens Christensen with help from George Stephenson and other investors who had helped finance Mission San Diego de Alcalá's construction year earlier. Stevensons donated land for the village which they named after their father-in-law John Stevens (1775-1851). The original settlement consisted of just over sixty homes built between 1861 and 1863 by farmers and businessmen from around southern California. In 1865 Pico Rivera was annexed into the new city of San Diego but continued to be called "Pico River". On March 3rd 1908 Mayor Giovanni Fontana changed its name to "Pismo Beach" after then State Senator John Pismo (1915-1986) who represented that district in the state legislature at that time; changing it again back to its prefectureal name on October 6th 1931 upon gaining jurisdiction over all beach areas within his district following passage of Senate Bill No. 592 amended thereto effective October 1st 1931 On January 17th 1966 when US Highway 101 designation changed from Route 66 aka "The Great American Road" through Los Angeles County it concurrently changed its routing southward via Arrowhead Lake untilslotting into concurrent US Highways 83/5 southbound & 830 northbound just south of Interstate 5 near El Sobrante making it one continuous roadway thruout much or all Surrounding Counties

Pico Rivera is a small town in the San Diego County region of California, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2000 census. It is named after Pico Rivera, an Italian U.S. Army general who fought in World War II and became a national hero. The townsite was laid out in 1892 by J.M. Dent and Wm. Hoey, two of the original developers of Encinitas Rancho Seco and El Cajon Ranchos (now part of Imperial Beach). The first post office in Pico Rivera opened on December 15, 1893; it operated for three years under the name Indian Wells Station. In 1895, John Atherton platted what would become Pico Rivera and submitted a land grant to the USGS for $20,000 (). Atherton's brother-in-law, Augustus Kelley (), donated 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of his property immediately south of present day Pico Rivera Boulevard to establish what would become El Cajon Village (). The village metamorphosed into its current form when citrus farmers decided to settle there after realizing that they could not grow oranges commercially on their Idlewild holdings within driving distance of Los Angeles (). In 1912, American Legion Post #1 was founded in Pico Rivera; it served as a base from which local men attempted to quell Mexican corridos (rural warfare) during World War I by fighting on both sides alongside America's allies (); however, as war neared its endWWI veterans returned home invalided with numerous injuries such asrapnel wounds or shellshock). An armory () built at this time allowed for weapons storage and repair for up to 10 guns per room ()–a significant development given that Encinitas had no railroad or access to other markets for goods exported from Southern California ().
