In 1853, José María Ortiz built a adobe cabin on what is now south side of Main Street in Pico Rivera for his family farmstead known as El Olivero or The Olive tree Farmstead; it remains today as one of the oldest extant buildings in Pico Rivera dating back to that time. In 1865, Antonio Moreno constructed a two story adobe building which served as both schoolhouse and courthouse until it burned down in 1924. In 1867 Manuel Nieto purchased land adjacent to Moreno's adobe property and erected a three level white stuccoed wooden house with Ionic columns holding up roof beams that became known as La Casa Blanca or White House Road—the original home also serving as local court house from 1865 until its completion by representative George Hines in 1922/23 upon succession by then Mayor Tomás Gomez de la Cruz Jr., Sr.. The current red brick structure was added circa 1957/58 when Mrs./Mrs.(Eduardo) Avilés purchased adjoining property from Mayor Gomez Sr.. It should be noted that both La Casa Blanca (White House Road) and El Olivero were originally part of Francisco Tolsch’s estate which he divided among his children between 1848 & 1861 following his death at age 41 while riding herd on Coyote Creek outside Chino Hills; many believe[s] that Tolsch left Coyote Creek Ranch unutilized due to financial problems within his family subsequent to his death – most likely caused by alcohol abuse . Another theory suggests[s] that Francisco Tolsch may have sold Coyote Creek Ranch including El Olivero to Juancías Vasquez after saving several horses along with other equipment during January 1863 Santa Ana floods when over 240 families were killed or displaced across Kern County resulting in $2 million loss for ranchers Lorenzo Nunez & Felipe Soriano which led directly to establishment of Valley citrus packing industry notable today referred to as “La Fama” El Olivero remained part of Arsenio Lopez’s family until 1893 when Lopez died leaving all assets undistributed leaving behind several thousand acres plus another 8000 acres enclosed within reservation granted him by Mexico prior To statehood but never cultivated yielding only 3 bushels per acre . After statehood such lands reverted back into Mexican hands finally becoming available for settlement in 1907 thru purchase fromMexican government by Arsenio Lopez’s widow Lupe y Larios . Upon her death no issue male heir apparent claimed title so land passed thru several female heirs before being acquired by Arsenio Lopez’s widow Lupe y Larios(Lopez daughter Emmeline married Driggs Coleman ) forming Goleta Valley Land Company Ltd effective November 1916 thru March 1919 thru purchase from GVLC from David Sanger President American Tobacco Company .) As mentioned earlier Vallejo Canal Company also acquired additional 4000 acres eastward comprising parts now included within City Limits #1 annexed thereto circa 1920–27 pursuant legal process initiated forthfrom Goleta Valley Land Company Incorporated dated October 1916 .)
