Pico Rivera is a small town located in Kern County, California. In the year 2000 it had a population of just over 4,000 people and today it has shrunk to under 1,500 residents. The area now known as Pico Rivera was given its name by Leland Stanford Purchase who purchased land in 1876 for $10 per acre. Pico Rivera is situated on the banks of the river San Gabriel River and at its greatest width it covers an area of only 9 square miles. Today there is not much that makes Pico Rivera unique other than its small size and location within Kern County. The highlight of Pico Rivera's history however, are the events that took place here during World War II which helped shaped the town into what it is today. The first event that occurred in Pico Rivera took place on September 15th, 1939 when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Japanese planes strafed many residential areas throughout Los Angeles County resulting in many civilian casualties including women and children. Many people living near Pearl Harbor decided to stay put and wait out the war but a few families decided to leave their homes and move to Pico Rivera where they would be safe from further bombing raids. This action by some of PicoRivera's citizens helped give birth to what would become known as "the internment camp". The internment camp was started by order of President Franklin D Roosevelt who believed that Americans were not responsible for the attack on Pearl Harbor so he wanted them held accountable rather then released back into society without any punishment or compensation. This example shows how important community involvement can be in shaping a town's identity even if it means being away from home for a short period of time. After World War II ended, many things changed for both civilians and military personnel stationed here including becoming more welcomed into society with open arms while others experienced harsh treatment such as being sent back to Japan after surrendering at Hiroshima . Paco Rivera sees itself as one big family which helps contribute to its sense of community spirit despite having very little else in common with other nearby towns. It is also worth noting that although businesses have closed down over time due to competition from larger municipalities like Bakersfield or Riverside (both located 25 miles south), most residents still remain friendly towards each other no matter what might have happened in their pasts or present day problems

Pico Rivera is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded in 1887 by José Pico and his wife, Rosa de la Cueva. The name comes from the Spanish word "pico"meaning peak or summit. Pico Rivera is located at an elevation of 4,554 feet (1,402 m). The town was originally known as the "Valley of Roses". In 1915, the first Memorial Day Parade took place in Pico Rivera. The parade was organized by Mrs. Edwin Culp Foster and her husband, Harry Waddell Foster. At that time there were only a few hundred people living in Pico Rivera. By 1922 there were over 1,000 residents and the parade became a major event on the local calendar.
Pico Rivera is a census-designated place in Los Angeles County, California. It is located on the eastern edge of downtown Los Angeles. The population was 83,914 at the 2010 census.
