Pico Rivera is a small town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the Inland Empire and borders Ontario on the north and east, Claremont on the south, and Agoura Hills to the west. Pico Rivera was founded by Mexicans in 1847 as Pueblo Viejo de la Sierra de Pico Rivera. At that time it was one of three towns in San Bernardino County. The other two were Claremont and Ontario. Pueblo Viejo de la Sierra prospered until 1853 when gold seekers discovered it had no gold ore but did find silver nearby. Because of this discovery, many people from Mexico started moving into what is now Pico Rivera to prospect for riches. This influx of people caused problems because there was not enough land to accommodate them all and they began displacing native cats who had lived here for many years before their arrival. In 1854 a group of Englishmen arrived in America looking for new land to settle and they bought some of the surrounding ranchos fromMexicans for $10 per acre (4¢ per square foot). They named their new farmstead Pioneer Farm after those who had preceded them in coming to America seeking fortune. When they first moved in, they found only sagebrush and wildflowers growing around their site but within a few years they had built a cabin, cultivated crops, erected buildings including a schoolhouse and storeroom, hauled water from an underground stream upriver to provide light and heat during winter months, built roadsides telephone poles which functioned as antennas today (still visible), planted trees orchards with apples or pearsDo you see those long Telephone wires running through your property? That’s how electricity got hooked up here! One such pioneer farmer was George Haggerty who connected PICO RIVERA with LAWRENCEVILLE over phone lines back then- still standing today! Today his descendants run Pioneer Farms groceries store on First Street near Highway 56! The early days were tough; farmers struggled against high costs associated with farming activities plus periodic droughts that limited crops production; nevertheless through hard work settlers managed to build self-sufficient communities that thrived until World War II when war led prices for goods imported by rural Americans skyrocketed putting much stress on local economies

The Mexican settlers were strict in their religious beliefs and did not allow any outsiders to settle on their land. So when American soldiers discovered this new land during the Mexican-American War, they were emboldened to try and claim it for themselves. The Americans also discovered a gold mine in nearby San Bernardino County which led them to invest more money into exploration. Eventually, they found that there was so much gold present in Pico Rivera that they abandoned all of their other plans and began making a permanent settlement here. This is where Pico Rivera Township came about – it was chosen as the site for a new town because of its proximity to the gold mine. It wasn’t until 1848 that stores started opening up and people started moving into Pico Rivera from all over California. By 1850, there were over 100 businesses lining Main Street! The population grew rapidly due to both industry (the mines kept booming) and immigration – many of whom were Italian immigrants who wanted to start their own businesses in America after years of being discriminated against in Italy. Eventually, Pico Rivera became an important center for trade with all over Southern California as well as Nevada and Arizona thanks to its location on Route 66! And even though it’s been through some tough times recently (due mainly to its high crime rates), Pico Rivera still has a lot going for it – from its picturesque architecture to its rich history!
Pico Rivera is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 9,482 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan area. Pico Rivera is located on both sides of the Pico Rivera River, east of downtown San Diego and west of Tijuana. The CDP includes most of the eastern portion of ZIP code 92109 and much of the western portion including ZIP code 92101. Parts extend into other zip codes as well such as 92118 in southeastern Oceanside and 92063 in Kearny Mesa. The name "Pico Rivera" comes from two adjacent mountains; Murali Hill to the east and hills near Mission Valley to the west were used for cattle pastures by early Mexican settlers. today's town center was founded in 1887 when an American Land Company bought land between these two mountains which it named Pueblo de la Union (New Town). A post office called Pueblo de la Union was established in 1887, but it was discontinued in 1896 because there were no residents living there then. A new post office called Pico Rivera opened on December 8, 1897 during Spanish rule before becoming an American community under US jurisdiction after Mexico acquired independence from Spain that year. In 1912 a railroad line ran through Pueblo de la Union station making it easier for pioneers to move into what would become Pico Rivera about 10 miles northward on Interstate 805 outside downtown San Diego In 1928 a small airstrip was built near present day Airport Drive within walking distance of many homes and businesses forming what became known as "the Village." The village thrived until World War II when large numbers of Japanese Americans were relocated to southern California during that conflict due to their incarceration at various camps throughout America including those along Baja Peninsula
