As early as 1922, local ranchers had been grazing livestock on what would eventually become Woodland Park Zoo – now known as Hollywood Hills Racetrack –6 miles northeast of town center on what is now South Avenue near Century Boulevard/Pasadena Freeway interchange; this land had been leased from Rancho La Brea Tariff Collector Henry Ainsworth since 1876 for $1 per year after paying annual rent from cattle that grazed thereon. On July 15th 1922, sixty acres (240 m²) were patented to Rufus Ewing Jr., son-in-law of Harry Swayne who founded Swayne Petroleum Company Limited in 1901 with oil discoveries off Santa Barbara County south of Ventura Harbor along present day US 101W between Camarillo and Simi Valley Streets; this site became known as "Ewing Oil Field" subsequent to Rufus Ewing’s purchase thereof from Waddell & choice sons heirs October 16th 1923 for $2700 cash also including rights to future discoveries off Ventura County coast subject thereto... This property included 4 blocks bounded by Vernon Avenue NW corner Camelback Road NE corner Ewing Road SW corner Sawgrass Drive SE corner woodlands Drive NNE... These parcels remain extant today adjacent to Hollywood Hills Golf Course

Grant’s forces and Francisco Lopez de Santa Anna’s forces across what is now Southern California, PicoRivera had become a battleground – a place where American soldiers enforced law and order while Mexican soldiers defied it In 1865, when white settlers began moving into PicoRivera, they encountered hostile Indian tribes living on ranchlands nearby who also resisted assimilation into society; this led to sporadic warfare between these groups over control of resources.– The tensions escalated until 1876 when Villa landed at Lompoc on his way north to assault Baja California; this attack led to open hostilities that continued intermittently until 1886 On July 4th 1888, following an uprising against Governor Doniphan that included civilian casualties as well as members of both armies combined – more than 1,500 people were killed including womenfolk pregnant with fetuses – PicoRivera was designated a provisional federal district under United States jurisdiction but returned fully under Mexican rule within two months With its long history and rich cultural heritage dating back centuries (including art galleries such as La Estancia Gallery), PicoRivera has been home to many famous people throughout its history including actors Gregory Peck (from Yorba Linda) and Marlon Brando (from Carlsbad Caverns).
Pico Rivera is the namesake of a neighborhood in Southern California that is now part of the city of Carson. The community was located on the east bank of the San Gabriel River and was developed between 1868 and 1889. It consisted of small, two-story houses with small gardens.
