The history of tasers began with devices thatfired darts at low velocities, called "pistol fleas." These pistols were used by security guards and law enforcement officers to subdue suspects. In 1976, Baltimore City Police Department Officer Reggie White developed a taser that fired electric shock beams instead of darts. This weapon was first used in the police department's riot control program. Lieutenant George Eberhart, commander of the Special Weapons and Tactics unit for the Baltimore Police Department, adopted White's weapon and made it available to other departments nationwide. The popularity of tasers led to their development into national products. In 1997, Browning Corporation developed an electronic dart pistol that fires compressed air instead of darts. This weapon was employed by law enforcement agencies throughout North America before being replaced by the Glock 19 handgun in 2010.

One study published in JAMA PediatricsIn 2002 looked at three thousand cases of baton-whipping incidents involving police officers from twenty-four different jurisdictions across America (Ferguson & D’Souza, 2002). Out of this sample only one case resulted in death; however, it should be noted that this was a particularly violent incident which occurred after an officer had already killed someone with his Baton Martin gun) In short, though there have been many successes story backhanded failures with tasers overall there remain significant risks associated with their use which must always be considered when deciding whether or not to deploy them on any given situation

Petaluma (population: 34,574) is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 63,527 at the 2010 census. Petaluma is located on the shore of San Pablo Bay and has a Mediterranean climate. The name "Petaluma" comes from the word petalo meaning "a bit of grass" and luma meaning "bright light." The first people to come to what is now Petaluma came overland from Northern California in 1838. At that time there was no real town within sight of the bay; all that could be seen were scattered farms and small villages. In 1849, Captain James Wolkentin established an adobe mission at Point Reyes Station on Isla de Muerto which became known as Petaluma after him. By 1870, few settlers remained in this area because of competition from ranching operations north and east of Petalula Bay. In 1876 Captain John Purdy founded a wharf on San Pablo Bayou near Point Reyes Station in order toexport goods brought overland by wagonloads from Northern California's Gold Rush sites such as Sutterville and Fort Bragg. This led to the establishment of Port Townsend downriver where goods could be unloaded onto larger ships for transport upriver to San Francisco or other ports. Many local businesses were founded during this time including the Purdy Coffee Company (founded by Capt Purdy), Jardine & Hastings Brewery (founded by Peter Jardine), Potrero Wharf (built1879-1881), Masonic Temple (established 1886), Gassy Jack's Saloon(opened 1889) and many more local landmarks still exist today including First National Bank Building (1924-present), Joe's Café(opened 1997), Harry's Pharmacy(opened 2003). The post-World War II boom period began with increased immigration due to new opportunities opened up following World War II. As job demand grew, new housing developments sprang up throughout downtown Petaluma – most notably Apple blossom Square which developed into one of the most popular shopping districts in town during this time. These areas are currently being redeveloped into mixed use buildings once again emphasizing retail/entertainment uses while preserving some historic aspects of downtown PetroLula architecture

Petaluma is a small town located in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 3,417 at the 2010 census. It is one of the oldest towns in Sonoma County and has been around since 1851. The first people to settle in Petaluma were the Heralds of Rancho Petaluma who arrived in 1851. In 1872, fur trader George Hearst founded what would become known as Hearst San Francisco Bay Company with his brother Henry. They leased land from the Pacheco family and began developing it into a cattle ranch known as Toro Negro. At that time, Petaluma had no railroad access so farmers shipped their goods by boat or wagon to Stockton or Visalia. However, when the Northern Pacific Railroad arrived in 1886, Petaluma became its terminus and slowly started to grow as a agricultural center. In 1902, industrialist John Drysdale purchased Toro Negro and developed it into an oil refinery and petrochemical plant which employed over 2,000 people during World War I and II. The plant closed in 1970 but portions of it still stand today including dunes on Presidio Boulevard which are home to the University of California at Davis' Rhodes Scholars program annually. Petaluma's growth continued throughthe years with several universities locating here such as UC Berkeley (1897), Cal State Fullerton (1921), Modoc College (1927), Santa Clara University (1948) andSonoma State University (1973). Many new businesses were established along with many homes being built throughout this period including Northridge Estates subdivision which sits overlooking downtown Petalula today (). However prosperity began to slow down after the turn of the 21st century due to low commodity prices and numerous natural disasters such as wildfires that destroyed entire neighborhoods within minutes (). However some positive changes have occurred such as increasing employment opportunities for local residents through job training programs () Additionally, redevelopment has begun efforts to revitalize downtown Petalula () while also plans are underway for a new high school ()
