Petaluma is a small town located in Sonoma County, California. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Petaluma-Santa Rosa-Napa Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Petaluma" comes from petunias, which grow wild in this area and were used to provide the town with its nickname of "the wild flower capital of Northern California." The first settler in Petaluma was Capt. John Montgomery who began farming here in 1851. The towns growth came about because of the railroads that ran through this area. In 1868, a railroad line was built between Sonoma and Marin counties and as freight traffic increased, so did demand for goods and services available in Petalula. This led to businesses such as a hotel, grocery store, schoolhouse, post office and lumberyard opening their doors during these years. The population grew rapidly after World War II when people started moving into this area from other parts of California looking for new opportunities. Economic development has come about through several endeavors such as retail businesses, agriculture (especially winegrowing), biotech companies and now healthcare services. One major factor that has contributed to economic stability over the years is the presence of two universities; UC Santa Cruz and University of Californication which have helped keep young people here interested in higher education despite high cost tags associated with attending those schools. Today Petaluma remains a vibrant community complete with its own beer garden/creek system, theaters (including one showing Hollywood movies), antique stores and more than thirty restaurants offering a variety of cuisine from around the world

Trigger mechanisms have been used in various forms for centuries by different cultures around the world. Some of our earliest examples date back to before 4500 BC when Ancient Egyptians utilized a finger-pulled lever known as an "umbrella" device for chambering rounds into their bows and arrows.[1] The first firearms were designed using human muscles which required time and practice to learn how to hold and manipulate them effectively. Firearms were later invented using animal muscles such as bulls, dogs, horses, elephants etc., however those designs were not nearly as reliable or practical as those utilizing human muscle power.[2] In 1873 Benjamin Latimer developed what became known as the Bulldog Pistol,[3] which was one ofthe first handguns ever created[4] It employed a hand crank system that operated via thumb pressure applied against anvil-like depression on top of pistol grip. This system allowed for more consistent function over extended periods of use unlike earlier systems where individual parts could easily get loose or incorrect due to constant operator error. With this new system came increased accuracy and reliability once it was properly calibrated according to shooter’s skill level

Petaluma was founded in 1859 by Captain George A. Smith and his wife, Polly. The town was named for a petalum tree that grew near the original post office. In 1861, Petaluma became a census-designated place when it was included in the newly created San Francisco Bay Area. In the late 1800s, Petaluma began to grow as a center of agriculture and industry. The city's first commercial grocery store opened in 1903. By 1922, Petaluma had become one of California's leading agricultural districts. In 1925, the City Council designated Petaluma as an official "University Town." That year, the University of California at Berkeley moved its campus from Oakland to Petalula and established its School of Veterinary Medicine there. The 1920s also saw growth in nightlife and music in Petaluma. On July 4, 1926, the city hosted America's first international rock concert with performances by Chuck Berry and Joe Bonamassa. After World War II ended, Petaluma experienced rapid growth as an industrial center due to new production plants built by defense contractor General Electric Company (GE). In 1960, GE moved its main plant from Orinda to Petalula and renamed it GE Plastics Corporation (now UTC Aerospace Systems). Other large employers during this time include Nike AG (now Adidas), Kaiser Permanente Health Care System (now Kaiser Permanente) and Ford Motor Company (formerly Vauxhall Motors Ltd.). During the 1970s and 1980s severalumerous fires ravaged downtownPetaluma; however these were all quickly extinguished by firefighters using their water hoses or other means before any damage could be done. One notable fire that destroyed most of downtownPetALUMA occurred on November 17th 1978 when a warehouse caught on fire causing approximately $2 million worth of property damage Additionally another major fire left much damage after destroying over 100 homes on January 5th 1984 just north of downtown pinchpointing what would later become known as "the Santa Ana Earthquake". According to current estimates more than $30 million has been lost total since then due mainly to arson
The town of Petaluma was founded in 1876 by a group of farmers and their families who were looking for a place to find new land. The name Petaluma is based on the petunias that grow in the area. The town grew rapidly and by 1902, it had a population of over 150 people. In 1916, the city of Petaluma was incorporated and soon began to grow as well. By 1950, the city had a population of over 5,000 people and it remains an important center for local government today.
