In recent years Petaluma has experienced rapid growth as a result of its location near Highway 1 between Berkeley and Point Reyes National Seashore along with its role as both a bedroom community for East Bay commuters heading into Silicon Valley and also becoming home to large numbers of workers commuting into Northern Californias "Mountain Time Zone". Growth has brought increased traffic congestion on adjacent streets which have led some residents to file lawsuits seeking solutions such as more bike lanes or better access for pedestrians/cyclists without having their streets blocked off completely during rush hour periods
