This company manufactured firearms and ammunition under the name "Pfeffer's Pistol and Rifle Ammunition." Pfeffer & Company quickly became one of the leading manufacturers of handguns in California. In 1853, Pfeffer & Company merged with another company, Waddell & Stephens Manufacturing Company. This merger led to the creation of Waddell, Stephens & Co., Incorporated (WSTC). WSTC soon became one of the largest handgun manufacturers in America. During World War II, WSTC produced guns for both Allied and Axis forces. The company also made rifles and shotguns for use by law enforcement officers and civilians alike. After World War II ended, WSTC slowly began to wind down its operations but continued to produce handguns until it ceased production in 1976. Today, WSTC is still an active manufacturer of firearms

Perris, California is a small town in Kern County, California, located about 25 miles east of Bakersfield. The population as of the 2010 census was 8,567. The site of present-day Perris was inhabited by the Ohlone people for thousands of years before European exploration discovered it in 1769. The first settlers were Spanish missionaries who founded Mission San Luis Rey de Francia in 1797 and named the area El Rancho Viejo after the grantee, Luis Vidal de Olivas y Arellano. In 1821, Rancho San Bernardino was granted to Alvarado Obregon and included land that now forms part of Perris. In 1846, Mexican citizens Manuel Nieto and Vicente Guerrero purchased from José Joaquin Mora an 640-acre (2 km²) slice of Rancho San Bernardino which lay within what is now Perris. They renamed it Rancho Moreno after one or more owners who had been killed there defending themselves against Apache raids during the 1850s war for land ownership between Mexico and America. On July 7, 1855, Mexican President Anastasio Carranza approved a deed recorded at Petaluma to Francisco Moreno sold by Manuel Nieto to his friend José Joaquín Mora for $1 million with interest paid annually until maturity on December 31, 1860. Although no action occurred on this document until 1862 when Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway began crossing ranchos near present-day Perris they were reported by contemporary newspapers as having been "ripened" so a railroad could be built through them without infringing upon private property rights. A portion of current Highway 101 crosses Moran Creek just south of town limits; this became necessary because railroads would not cross Moran Creek without prior approval from both parties. The Pernis were farmers and later ranchers who grew crops and raised cattle until they sold their land to the City of Riverside in 1903. From 1948 until 2003, Perris was an independent city governed by its own mayor and council with no relationship to either the County of Riverside or any other municipality within the greater Riverside area. In2003, however, Perris merged with neighboring Rancho Mirage into one unified municipality known as Rancho Mirage-Perris which had a population of over 100,000 residents at its peak (2002). This change in government structure allowed for more effective planning and management of both communities’ resources which has resulted in increased economic development for both towns since then. Today, perrysians continue to contribute significantly to band together for local events such as Harvest Festivals throughout the year as well as working together to build infrastructure projects across several industries including healthcare, education & technology etc., ensuring that their community remains thriving despite some difficult times throughout history
