It grew rapidly during the years following World War II as veterans returned to California and new businesses started up in industry and agriculture. In 1957 the City annexed part of neighboring Moreno Valley and at that time its population reached 15,000 people. In recent years there has been an increase in development within the city limits as well as outside thereof: a shopping mall called "Mall of America" opened in nearbylamasonta on October 12, 2013; a mixed-use project known as "Paradise Park" is planned for land adjacent to downtown Perris; and a $355 million stadium proposal for the University of Southern California (USC) campus has received preliminary approval from the USC Regents. The history of modern-day Perris can be traced back to 1889 when two prospectors named Don and Alonzo Perris discovered gold near present-day Arenillo Road east of town. They named their discovery Rancho San Antonio after Mexican Governor Manuel Nieto who gave them permission to explore it on December 1st 1881 while they were still living with their families at rancho San Pedro de la Cueva southwest of town. After finding no gold but making some valuable discoveries other than silver they sold their holdings to local man Juan Bautista Martinez in 1902 for $2 million dollars which made him one of the richest men southoftheborder at that time according to Forbes Magazine at that time). In 1907 Martinez subdivided his holdings into several Ranchos including San Antonio de las Palmas y La Mesa where he built what is now known as Old Town Hall which served as both courthouse and mayor’s office until 1915 when it burned down due to firestorming by numerous Native Americans living around Las Vegas valley including those from Sayre Valley about 25 miles SW (15 km SSW) then part of Nevada Territory because Mexico didn’t recognize Uintah County formed outof Utah Territory when Brigham Young became President Ulysses S Grant declared Utah independent onFebruary 14th 1861 leaving most Mormons behind (excepting approximately 10% who moved across River Tooele & towards Salt Lake City). By 1917 all active mining operations had ended so Building permit applications stopped being filed until 1935 when another mine opened called “Chrysler Field” northeast corner Main St&Arenillo Rd (now Chino Hills Blvd), Block 9 site north side old post Office building lot). Completed Developments included: A hotel – Hotel Californian – built 1925 overlooks center square today; Casino – Flamingo Racetrack – 1928 built adjacent Race Course Rd main entrance off Main St; Service Station/Gas station - Chevron - 1935 completed next door now home Of Orchard Plaza Restaurant; Homeplace Shopping Center - anchor store Sprouts Farmers Market opened 1962(formerly Empire Outfitters); Post Office - 1955 first National Bank building open also served first telephone exchange inside mall Opened 1963(owned by Citizens Bank), later First United Methodist Church(1948 merger with First Presbyterian Church).. Today portions include: Downtown area bounded byArenillo Rd., Chino Hills Blvd., USC Campus Area west side old military base lots formerly used for Storage etc.; Samovar Square between Arenillo Rd./Chino Hills Blvd.– literally between two mountains occupied mostly recently by IMAX theater– contains many large format displays showing minerals extracted from various parts or areas around this area such as surface scans taken today or yesterday morning looking straight down onto various parts or surfaces thereby giving you realtime 3D views like never before possible anywhere close thereto without equipment!

The community was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1853. The first post office in Perris was established in 1855. By 1870, Perris had a school and two stores. A post office and store were opened on December 1, 1870, by Brigham Young and Wm Hurlbut. In 1875, the name of the town was changed to Victorville after General Joseph Victor who led Ulysses S. Grant's Union forces during the American Civil War. In 1914-1915, perriss residents fought in World War I with Great Britain as part of United States troops under General Pershing. Between 1915-1918 there were 2 businesses that operated in Victorville; one restaurant and one general store which closed due to prohibition laws passed at that time by Governor John Sweetman Jr.. On October 20th 1918 local citizens met to discuss having their own water system within their boundaries but no action was taken until 1922 when it was decided to build a pipeline from Mono Lake through Perris to connect with other townships for distribution

The history of Perris begins with two companies of Mexican American soldiers who arrived in 1848 to help build the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Sacramento toLos Angeles. The town was founded by José Joaquin Murillo and his brother-in-law Manuel Nieto on October 3, 1849, after they received land grants from George W. Smith and others in what is now Kern County. The Murillo brothers made their home near the present day corner of First Street and Second Avenue. They continued farming until about 1870 when they built a cattle ranch that became a major center for beef production in Kern County. In 1887, James Fenton opened a grocery store on First Street and later developed an agriculturalenterprise which included four ranches: Redondo Beach Ranch (now Del Norte Ranch), Atwater Mesa Ranch (later renamed Butte), Bascom Hills Ranch (later called Imperial Valley) and finally San Fernando Valley Ranch (now parts of formationally Alhambra). By 1920 Perris had become one of the most important cities in Kern County due to its high volume of agricultural production as well as its location midway between Bakersfield and Chico
