In 1912, perry's grapevine blossomed for the first time since Rancho San Jacinto had been granted to Antonio Michelini twelve years earlier. After tasting some of this delicious fruit for the first time since he and his family were relocated there from their native Tuscany, Michelini decided to open a vineyard here with his brother-in-law Jephthah White. At that time perrys accounted for only 2% of all grapes grown in southern California; but within ten years its production had increased to over 50%. Today perrys remains one of only two remaining wineries in Orange County and one of just six remaining wine production operations in California statewide (the others being Chateau Margaux and L’Atelier du Vin). In 1915, Rufus Hennepin organized an orange crop drive which resulted in millions of pounds being harvested across Southern California including Perris itself - making it then one of America's leading orchards producing oranges! By 1925 P&G had bought out Rufus Hennepin's interest and continuedproducing Oranges under their own name until 1987 when they merged with Unilever who continue to produce Oranges under that name today
