The Perris Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. The first rifle range in the area was at Clear Lake, which opened in 1891. In 1906, Perris had its first pistol range. The club is also responsible for the construction of several historic firearms sights in the area including a half-inch bore French turnip rifle sight dating back to 1907 and an 11 inch diameter target ring from 1912.

The oldest known reference to any type of protective Clothing for Firearms was found dating back to 7th century BC in Ancient Greece. In this document, a man named Pheidippides states that he owned a bow and arrow which he used to hunt deer in the central Anatolia region (present day Turkey). He also wore armour made out of sheepskin or leather which protected him from arrows shot at him by other animals. At least since antiquity, people have worn various types of protective Clothing for Firearms when engaging in activities such as hunting or shooting. Reidy designed and built the world's first commercially successful sporting rifle, the Model 1903 Arsenal Rifle. In 1935, Armour still manufactured rifles under license from Reidy. In 1951, Armour merged with Browning Firearms Company to form Browning-Arsenal Incorporated (BAI). BAI continued manufacturing firearms pursuant to Armstrong shotgun patents until 1969 when they were sold to Colt Industries plc..
The history of Perris, California can be traced back to the time before European settlement. The area that is now Perris was first settled by the Ohlone people between 1275 and 1300. The Ohlone were a Native American tribe who lived in what is now Riverside County. They hunted and gathered food from the local plants and animals. Over time, they lost their way in the wilderness and wandered into what is now Orange County. In 1835, Mexican nationals seeking to gain U.S. citizenship discovered an open land grant in central California called Rancho San Marcos de Acosta given to Manuel Nieto by Governor José Joaquin Murrieta on December 6, 1834. On January 11, 1836, Mexican citizens purchased Rancho San Marcos for $20 per acre from Juan Bautista Alvarado y Cisneros with intentions of selling it back to Mexico when possession was won by U.S.-Mexican forces during the “Pasadena War” of1846-1847 led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna over Californios under Don José Castro y Alvarado at Gaviota Hill (now part of Perris). The town of Perris was platted on November 15, 1857 by Fayetteville lawyer John Sutter as part of a larger scheme to encourage investment in El Dorado County dry goods stores founded along Utah Road north of today’s Moreno Valley (Mendocino Co.). The store platting coincided with Sutter’s purchase—for $3,000—of 2,500 acres west of present-day downtown Perris where he erected a two-story adobe building known as the Hotel du Morro which still stands today within City limits adjacent to Interstate 5 southbound lanes east thereof (Figure 1). On February 27, 1860 three men – Jens Christensen (the brother-in-law), George Stephenson and Elisha Lewis – bought from Sutter all rights/interests in & adjoining lands lying westwardly one mile main street due east line Of said property surveyed for Government Station Post Office at present corner lot number four hundred fifty one block northwest side Of I5 freeway; sectional boundaries At this point To include: northeast corner lot number four hundred fifty three block northwest side Of I5 freeway To consist: endowment land Includeth parts lots numbered six through eight inclusive ; southwest corner lot number four hundred fifty five block northwest sideOf I5 freeway consisteth only site Of old Hospital buildings now used as Recreation ground By City services; southeast corner lot number four hundred seventy six block northerly sideOf I5 freeways consists only Oak Trees Grove With its streams running therein ? acquired therefrom For use as Firewood dump Site? This last acquisition included all land above street level excepting Lotsnumbered Six through Eight which are still owned or leased by individual owners ??? Since then many changes have taken place within both city limits and off limits portions thereof such as the annexation of much later parts codeine county including numerous subdivisions consequent upon oil discoveries made thereon during World War II adjacent thereto also resulting in several new neighborhoods being developed including Fountain Valley beyond Downtown Perris along with other peripheral areas annexed thereto during those years also resulting indirectly into several school districts located herein within city limits also makingPerris one significant force behind most recent growth trends seen hereabouts even if some residents continue to disapprove thereof
Perris was founded in 1887 by the Perris family. The town became a dry farming community with an adobe house as its first Progress Station. By 1915, the population of Perris had grown to 3,500 and it became an agricultural center with irrigation systems and a sawmill. In 1945, Perris was renamed for Major General George C. Marshall after he served as the Chief of Staff of United States Army during World War II. In 1949, the Perris School District was created when the County added land to their boundaries.
