Perris, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 7,183 at the 2010 census. It is located about 30 miles (48 km) east of Bakersfield and about 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Fresno. The Perris–Tulare County line is the geographic border between Perris and Tulare Counties. The community was founded in 1885 by John Eldridge and named for his wife's maiden name, "Parrish". The first post office in the community was established in 1886. In 1907, Perris became part of what was then Tulare County. On February 8, 1912, it became a city with a mayor and City Council. On January 1, 1937 it merged with Tulare to form the current city of Perris. The largest employer in town is Masterpiece Cement which employs over 1,000 people across all departments including production engineering; marketing; sales; public relations; accounting; human resources management; data entry/processing; warehouse management/control systems-end use products including concrete aggregate and other gravels There are also numerous private businesses including an automotive dealership, two food stores/cafés/, two hardware stores/, one jeweler/, four chiropractors/, five dentists*, three veterinarians*, one water filtration company*, one pet store* (*closed Nov 2016). There are also several schools within walking distance: Southwest Elementary School District *( reopen Dec 2017), Westview Intermediate School District #1 *( reopen Jan 2019), Eastside High School District #2 *( reopened Feb 2020), Southwestern Middle School District #3 *( reopen Mar 2021).

The Perris Dam was built near the town in 1928 to provide water for cities east of downtown Riverside. In 1957, Perris incorporated as an unincorporated community. In 1976, it became a city when it merged with neighboring West Covina. On January 1, 1998, Riverside County annexed Perris into its jurisdiction and discontinued its functions as an unincorporated community within that county.
