Patterson, California is located in the far north of Yuba County and it has a population of just over 5,000. The history of Patterson goes back to the 1800s when it was part of the rancho de las Flores. The rancho was founded by José Francisco Flores and his wife María del Carmen Andrade. In 1851, the Rancho de las Flores was sold to James Hance who renamed it Rancho Hance y Otterbein. In 1894, the Rancho Hance y Otterbein was sold to George A. Patterson who renamed it Patterson Place. The name change came about because George A. Patterson had been a general in the Union army during the American Civil War and he owned land near Sacramento, California which he used as a military base. For most of its history, Patterson has been an agricultural community with few industry activities other than farming and ranching. However, since World War II there have been several sporadic attempts by people in Patterson to start businesses such as a computer store or a printing shop. These efforts have all failed because there is no market for these types of businesses in an agricultural area like Patterson with its limited population and low investment potential. However, there are some positive aspects to this community’s history that deserve mention: first and foremost are itsGun TARGETS facilities which have become one of the leading tourist attractions in northern Yuba County! The town grew rapidly and by 1860 it had a population of 1,500. By 1870, Patterson had a total of 10 stores, 5 schools and 2 churches. In 1875 the first telephone service was provided in Patterson.

By 1990, the population had decreased to 508 people due to various factors such as dwindling oil production and recent development around the town. Although it has experienced declines over time, Patterson remains a vibrant community with active businesses and families. The history of Patterson begins with George W. Patterson, who discovered large amounts of oil deposits in what is now California's Mojave Desert during World War I. Afterward, he decided to name his new settlement after himself – Patterson City (which still exists today). The first post office was opened on May 10th 1910, and soon began to grow rapidly due to its proximity to military bases throughout Southern California. By 1920, Patterson had a population of 2270 residents – an increase of 400% from just 100 people five years earlier! During World War II, Patterson became one of several communities located near Camp Pendleton within Stanislaus County – home to both the US Marines and Army units stationed there at the time. However, despite this strategic location, growth slowed down largely because Of limited resources available for development outside of Camp Pendleton itself – making Patterson one of few small towns dotting Stanislaus County at that time. Despite this stagnation however; local businesses continue thrived until recently due to continued growth in other nearby areas such as Redding - which also shares some similar demographics to Patterson*.
