They were the first white people to settled in that area and they named their community Patterson after their leader, Hiram Patterson. The town was developed over the next few years and by 1886 it had a population of around 100 people. The Patterson post office was established on December 7, 1887 and closed on November 30, 1974. The first settler in Patterson was Hiram Wofford and his family who arrived from Indiana in 1887. They built a cabin near present-day Porter Ranch. In 1893 Bugsy Siegel came to Patterson from Mexico with his bride Harriette Siegel and their two children Emiliano Jr and Harriette Sr. He owned land adjacent to the post office which he used for cattle ranching until 1911 when he sold it to A C Roddy who later donated it to the City of Bakersfield for use as an open park including a playground, baseball diamond, tennis court, lake and undeveloped site for housing development called "Ridgecrest". In 1913 Edward Kapp bought a majority interest in the Ridgecrest land from A C Roddy for $5,000 cash and began developing it into what is now known as Patterson Park. Kapp named the area after his father-in-law George Eaton who had died young in 1907 while farming near El Centro,. Eaton's estate provided enough money to finance construction of a road and water system that would bring goods and people to Patterson from all over Kern County

It is located on the east side of Livermore Valley and is adjacent to Livermore National Laboratory. Patterson's rich history began with its founding as a farming community in 1868 by John P. Patterson and his wife, Anna Sutter Patterson. The first store in Patterson was built on the present site of the Livermore Valley Elementary School in 1872. In 1925, Patterson merged with neighboring town of Fremont to form the new city of Livermore. In 1990, Livermore withdrew from Alameda County and became an independent city under its own government. The history of Patterson begins with John P. Patterson's discovery of gold near what is now Pattersonsville in 1848. He organized a party led by Captains George Wagoner and Samuel Stoddard to explore this new land and found that it held many valuable resources including silver mines and gold mines worth $1 million each! John P. Patterson named his new settlement after himself – "Pattersonville" – which he founded on November 8th, 1868 (the same day that he discovered gold). By 1870, over 360 people had moved into "Pattersonville", including 50 women who learned how to spin cotton from local Native Americans. The first post office opened in May 1870; it served as the town's main artery for communications until 1893 when construction began on the current courthouse building across First Avenue from today's school district offices – still serving as central nervous system headquarters for much of western Contra Costa County! As settlement increased throughout eastern Contra Costa County, businesses mushroomed around Stoddard & Company Store (opened February 6th 1871), Post Office (May 1870), Masonic Lodge No 1 (August 3rd 1870), Lumber Yard (March 4th 1865), Coal Mine No 1 (January 21st 1865) & No 2(February 14th 1865) – all within one mile or less of one another! As production ramped up at these mines during mid-1870s through late-1880s,[1] demand for goods produced in downtown Pattersonsville quickly outstripped supply![2] This continued until 1893 when construction began on what would become today's University District Headquarters complex (formerly known as First Ave.) across First Avenue from today’s school district office buildings; completing what would be known as “the Great livermore famine” due to lack of food available locally beginning around October 1893[3]? With no major industry left standing by 1896,[4] most residents relocated away from downtown pattersonsville following this period experiencing rapid gentrification which took place primarily along First Ave., Mission Rd./Avenida de la Reforma Blvd., College Ave./Calle Universo/Pasadena Dr., Temple Place/Moses Mose School #2/Elihu Sconnie School #2 etc.?[5][6][7][8][9][10] In December 1990, Livermore withdraws from Alameda County and becomes an independent city under its own government We are proud to have been a part of this unique community since their establishment
