In 1850 John Patey arrived from Ipswich, England with his family and established himself northwest of present-day Patterson on state route 22 opposite where John Patterson Jr.'s cabin had stood just four years earlier; he also erected a log cabin thereabouts (this structure too was destroyed by fire). By 1860 there were twentynine residents living in what is now Patterson; eleven families lived on Mr. Patey's farmstead while thirteen others resided at various outlying frontier posts within ten miles or so of town center (the most northerly post being Shasta Lake). Most early settlers were farmers: six men farmed 400 acres (1 km2) apiece during the first decade after arrival; fifteen more men operated sixty additional acres (20 km2) pastures between 1850 and 1860 alone; but soon enough many citizens began to engage in trade as well: merchants bought goods from Indian traders for resale back home; blacksmithing became locally important because local iron ore would not be fetching much prices at importation points farther west However, some residences did remain until after World War II when they were used as barracks for military maneuvers or for other uses such as storage facilities

The towns current name comes from its location on U.S. Route 101 near Yosemite National Park and its close connection to Yosemite National Park. The history of Patterson begins with the arrival of Europeans to Southern California in 1847. One of the earliest settlers, Colter Jourdain, arrived at Rancho San Pedro de Atacama in March of that year and began leasing land to various individuals and families for $5 per acre payable quarterly. By 1850, there were over sixty people living on Rancho San Pedro de Atacama with approximately hundred acres under cultivation. However, most of these colonists were German immigrants who did not enjoy warm weather and so left for northern California during winter months seeking work or passage through Ellis Island onto American ships bound for Spanish America. Only four men from Rancho San Pedro de Atacama made it as far north as Sacramento before winter closed them down once again (Fowler). In 1865, John Crain purchased 1,200 acres from Manuel Nieto for $15 per acre ($640 total) which he divided into sixteen parcels totaling 602 acres . Two years later John Crain sold his interest to Pemberton & Eldridge who leased 1,392 additional acres (4 square miles) including much of what is now Patterson Township . This transaction marked one of the largest real estate sales ever conducted south of Alameda County . By 1870 Pemberton & Eldridge had developed twenty two homes on their new property - eleven single family residences and eleven duplexes/ triplexes (Kelly). In 1875 Captain Samuel Morse organized a group called “The First Californians” who sought to settle Oregon Valley country eastward beyond Point Reyes Station along present day Highway 101 (Morse v Shumway). Captain Morse intended to erect a log cabin colony there but failed due largely to lack of available funding; however his dream would come true more than fifty years later when Congress approved appropriations for settlement efforts across all States regardless of population size – thus providing impetus for growth throughout muchOf Western USA . After being refused entry at Olympia by railroad officials because he could only carry goods upriver rather than down into Puget Sound , Morse finally reached Olympia via steamboat on January 8th , 1897 carrying 640 passengers and crew including future governor William Seward ; thenceforth known as “Olympia Harbor Cruise Ship Pioneer Morse” sailing daily between Seattle Harbor Lodge () ashore at Olympic Peninsula () where passengers disembarked for lunch aboard Mrs . Lillian Elliott's schooner "Lillie" then sailed southwest along today's Olympic Peninsula back upriver whence they had come (Patterson ). On October 5th 1898 Governor Seward announced plans to establish a city within Los Angeles County ; henceforth known as Hollywood (). Accordingly On November 15th 1898 Los Angeles City Charter No.#1 became effective establishing Hollywood (), also comprising parts Of Santa Monica Mountains (), Westwood Village (), Reseda Village (), Carson Heights ()) - all currently constituent suburbs or villages within Los Angeles County contemporary with neighboring cities such as Beverly Hills(), Century City(), Westwood Village(), North Hollywood() ). With arrivals continuing daily offshoreliner loaders landing at Occidental Pierport () since 1917 bringing quality jobs ashore destined primarily towards those skilled tradesmen required within many metropolitan areas outside traditional farmworker habitats (); further development occurred inland beginning with agricultural real estate developments such as Signal Hill Racquetball Club (), Poway Ridge Golf Course() ), etc., affording buyers access direct sunlight agriculture without hours long drives necessary outside traditional production regions
