In 1907 Pasadena annexed land south of Main Street to form North Park which had a population of over 1,000 people when it voted annexation into Pasadena on November 5 that same year; however this petition failed due to lack of support from Mayor Fenton or other elected officials at that time who saw little benefit for North Park given east-west thoroughfares were already developed nearby including Downtown LA with more than 2 million residents by that time
