One of the first gun magazines to be published was Black powder magazine No. 1 which was founded in 1808 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. It was a monthly publication that focused on the history and use of black powder firearms. The magazine continued to be published until 1827 when it merged with another magazine, Red Ryder’s Rifleman, to form Black powder journal No. 2 which lasted until 1852 when it merged again with Harper’s Ferry rifleman journal to form Harper’s Ferry Rifle and shotgun Magazine No. 3 which continued publication until 1861 when it merged with Winchester rifleman journal to form Winchester Rifle and Pistol Journal (now Winchester Ammunition). This magazine also served as the pioneer source for information about handguns such as revolvers and pistols from 1792 through 1895! Another early firearm magazine was called The Gunfighter which was founded in 1835 by Ebenezer Colt! It featured articles on handgun use and handling along with illustrations from actual shootings! The magazine continued publishing until 1851 when it merged with Smith & Wesson revolver & pistol magaice No 7 (later renamed Western Sporting News) to become American arms publick no 9 (later renamed Arms & Ammo). This magazine also served as the founding source for information about firearms manufacturing including Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company products! During World War II, many gun magazines were created specifically for military use such as Infantry Journal (IJ), Tanker Journal (TJ), Airborne Journal (AJ) and Signals Journal (SJ). Each issue would typically have several articles related to artillery, tanks, planes or other battlefield activities!
