In 1882, Californian settlers established Los Alamos Springs south of present-day Pasadena along with other settlements including Colonia Alta and La Verne Island off Long Beach Peninsula north of Orange County before reaching present-day Pasadena proper from coastal areas around Mount Wilson via Big Sur Coast Road during late summer or early fall annual wildflower blooms typically occurring about late May through early October when temperatures average 80 degrees Fahrenheit or higher; highest water levels reached near Baker Lake circa 1890 (~120 feet below current surface level). After completion or soon after start (date unknown), Soldiers barracks being built for them at this location may have been called Fortification Hill although Army publicist Garza incorrectly claimed that it was also known as Camp Bowie during Mexican War period but no such claim exists extant; Army renamed Barracks Fort Bowie upon their return home sometime after American entry into World War II presumably because some still refer to it today as "Fort Bowie" despite changing hands many times thru out history.-- página / source: Riverside Museum Website
