In 1836 José María Cámpora acquired Rancho San Antonio from Juan Bautista Alvarado y Costilla (1812-1882), one of Californias founders. At that time it spanned 8 square miles (20 km2) south of Downtown Los Angeles and extended into present day Orange County to the east and north up to Placentia County to the west. Cámpora began development on his land which would become Pasadena; he named it after his friend Don Vicente Pasqual Zúñiga, Governor of Guerrero Province in South America under Spanish rule at that time A group of American soldiers returning from World War I found property near Redondo Beach while driving through Southern California on their way back home on July 25, 1916 – they had been sent toCurragh Airfield in Northern Ireland as part of Project McNeil – they sold off some 640 acres (240 hectares) including what is now Pasadena for $1 per acre ($40 per hectare) to Juan Olvera because he could find no buyers for it among other war veterans across southern California valley On February 14, 1922 James Murchison purchased 6 acres (2 ha) northeast corner lot number three in City Park District for $10 from Driscoll Brothers Real Estate Company Limited Partnership for use as an athletic ground for students at local schools .Murchison donated all or part of his holdings which included 5 lots totaling 33 feet (.11 m) width x 134 feet (.51 m) length x 1 foot (.30 m), bounded by Northampton Street on the East side, Sespe Street on the West side and Spring Garden Drive on both sides NW . This parcel became known as Mount Olivet Road .Murchison also donated two tennis courts located at 1001 North Mount Olivet Road northwest corner lot number four within park boundaries
