As far back as 1920 there existed what may have been the first grocery store west of Sacramento – run by Mrs Clementson on Main Street in Oakville – selling groceries only through her husband John Fenton who owned adjoining farmland nearby (the property now known as Fenton Ranch). Mrs Clementson served as proprietor until her death in 1951; thereafter her husband operated the store alone until 1996 when it closed its doors forevermore despite requests from several early 21st century residents for it to reopen! In 2000–2001 efforts began by volunteer group “Restoring Our Oaks” (www.
