Parlier was founded in 1849 by brothers Silas and Orin Parlier. The Parlier family grew cotton crops, but lost the business in the 1850s as a result of increased competition from other farmers. In 1875, Silas Parlier III donated land for a public school in what is now the town of Parlier. The school became part of the California state system in 1902 and continued operation until 1949.
