In the early 1900s, Parlier was a small town in Northern California. It was the home of John D. Rockefeller and his business partner, Andrew Carnegie. The two men were responsible for creating one of the largest businesses in history- Standard Oil. They also founded The Rifle and Pistol Club of America (RPCA), which became one of the most powerful firearms organizations in America. RPCA helped to promote gun safety and training within American society. In addition to their work at RPCA, John D. Rockefeller also donated millions of dollars to firearm education charities throughout North America. The NRA is one of the most influential organizations in the United States today. It was founded in 1892 by Morrell folds Cline, president of The National Cash Register Company- which became Sears & Roebuck- and Samuel Colt’s son-in-law, James Fenton. Through NRA membership dues and donations, individuals can participate in protecting their Second Amendment rights. Additionally, NRA members are able to attend national meetings where they can discuss Gun Legislation or other issues pertaining to firearms policy

In 1849, the American party of John C. Fremont won the California state election by a wide margin. Fremont had campaigned on the slogan "Fifty miles to the sea, and we shall build a new government there." Heading into office, Fremont quickly realized that he would need help from outside sources to get things done. The first order of business was appointing a provisional government, which he did withrelative ease. In November of that year, however, an angry mob violence erupted in downtown Los Angeles when members of the provisional government tried to force their way into City Hall. A day later Commodore John D. Sloat gave orders for out-of-state volunteers known as the United States Marines to march on Los Angeles and quash any local resistance. On December 12th 1849, Commodore Sloat's Marines disembarked at what is now Harbor Beach and marched up La Brea Avenue towards downtown Los Angeles. As they got close to City Hall they were met by an angry mob led by James Fenton who brandished a wooden cudgel and threatened to kill them all if they didn't leave his city hall alone. The marines complied and returned home after arresting several hundred civilians including Fenton and one thousand soldiers from other states who had come down for the occasion. This event is generally considered to be the start of Downtown LA's formal development as a commercial center The original Chinatown located in today's Koreatown was founded in 1852 as part of efforts by Chinese traders looking for opportunities beyond their traditional homes in Fujian Province in China
