During World War II, many military personnel were stationed at nearby Yucca Valley Naval Air Station () during their enlistment or induction process (). After 1945, many parishes within Kern County ceased operation due to declining populations and dwindling resources; however,Parrier continued to thrive with several small businesses remaining open until around 1970 when they too closed citing competition from larger towns (). In recent years (),Parlier has experienced increased population growth due to development nearby Interstate 5 which has led to more people coming through town for work purposes (). According to 2010 census estimates (), there are currently over 4500 residents living inParriertown ().
In 1846, the Mexican government sold Rancho San Carlos to John C. Fremont. The 3,000-acre (1,100 hectare) rancho was located in what is now Parlier in Kern County. The Fremont family started building a log cabin on the rancho in 1847. They named their new home "Mountain Meadows". In 1850, they hired George Hennepin as a white laborer on the rancho and renamed him Hector. In 1861, George C. Frémont visited Mountain Meadows and took pictures of the valley which he called "The Great Basin". In 1863, Frémont founded the University of California at Berkeley on Mount Diablo in Berkeley County.
